Wow, wish I was GZ, he's getting the full treatment now. Wonder if he was sober when those photos were taken.

I thought there was someone in Rocky, but now you have me thinking. :o
Maybe just spend some time with GZ, do a few k's, take some pics & send him on in a parcel up to Pat in Ayr? I can leave some $ in the packet with the books towards the postage.
I think it'd be great to see him visit Bundy Rum Distillery for some pics  ;)

I think that is probably the best thing to do fellas.
There is/was always going to a gap somewhere that we couldn't fill and Aussie Post is really the only option that we have to keep the lizard moving along.
Let me know if you need any help and we'll work our way around it one way or another.

If there are any problems getting GZ away from Catherine and Romy, I can jump onto a jet out of Darwin and have a quiet talk with the naughty boy.  ;D
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

I hope our friends in Australia get GZ posing with some of the Aussie Babes the place is so famous for. ;)

GZ is getting restless. He's been sitting still for too long. Will be giving him a trip this Sunday, then off to Marybourough the weekend after.
In the meantime, I took him to work today for a free lunch at the lead up to this year's Motorfest which will be held in July.
Catherine & Romy were pleased to meet GZ & were happy to pose with the banner. Just quietly I think the lizard was pleased to meet them as well, I sure was.  ;)

I showed GZ Heffay's video the other night & got the impression he was keen to hit the road again.

I strapped him onto my bike & took off to the swap meet at the Australian Motorcycle Museum at Haigslea.
The weather turned a bit sour but, had to put on the wet weather gear. I felt after what others had endured on the Relay thus far had been a lot worse than this so we soldiered on.
We stopped at Amberley RAAF Base seeing that it was on the way. GZ paid tribute to the fallen, then tried to hitch a ride, but I had to tell him that the aircraft had been decommissioned.

Met up with RetroRocket Mick at the museum for a tour. Lots of great bikes in there, Mick sure knows a lotta stuff about bikes. I reckon he could get a job here as a guide.  ;)
Outside the museum we were greeted by a very big motorcycle, powered by a Mazda 323 engine.

Mick & GZ

Here's some of the Honda stuff inside, I'll post some more pics in 'Other Bikes' thread when I get the chance.

It has a 500 engine number, but isn't that a 550 cyl head?

Okay, it's a twin, but I rode one of these to Adelaide & back in the 70's.

Power by Honda with a stretched 550 out to 6 cyls.

A rotary valve head on a 750 powered outfit with a sad tale.

Well that'll be the final local trip for me & Godzilla until we head North next weekend for the handoff to Trublue.
I've really enjoyed my time with the relay & will post distance covered when I get home from Marybourough.

Mick, it seems a bit sad that as the national organiser for the GZ tour you'll be the last to see the little critter!! When do you expect him? I hope you've got something big planned for him........perhaps big like a Darwin Stubby.
I'll have to look into this Lefty thing.....I haven't been keeping up with all that.

G'day Pete

I'm hoping to see GZ next month (May) sometime after the boys have finished the Qld section.
It might be a quick blast through here before he's sent on his way to Sam in GB.
I think that Sam is racing in Finland towards the end of June and also wants to give GZ a taste of G force when he arrives there.

There's plenty of beer and crocodiles waiting for the lizard up here so I'm sure that he'll have a good time.
I only recently heard that the only road registered 750 Honda I knew of up here has been sold to somebody but I don't know where it's gone.

Either way, there will be plenty of goodies at home for the lizard to play with while he gets a taste of outback Oz.
I had been hoping to have at least one machine running by then but I'm going to be out of time with work commitments.
I've been offered a job opportunity with a mining company and also finalising things with my business after 26 years.
It's one of those things that never seems to have an ending but I'll get there eventually.

I know that the beer will taste good and GZ can sit down with me and we'll knock a few (quite a few) over.  ;D

Mick

Mick,

GZ and Lefty both were raised on those American Thighs! Hell yeah.... when's that video dated? Excellent.

Jerry

They're saying that this is the official and original music video but I'm not sure when it was dated.
The Back in Black album was released in honour of Bon Scott a short time after his unfortunate and untimely passing and I believe that it was rereleased in the mid 80's sometime.
I love it.  8)   8)   8)

So mick, 26 yrs is a long time in business, I'm guessing it's just time to have s change and a "rest" from 24hr responsibilities. Congrats on hanging in there for that long and good luck with the new job mate.

I met Bon Scott once on the dance floor at the st Clair youth centre in the days of Fraternity. Would have been '71 or so. He spoke to me!! I think I bumped him and it was something like "get out the fkn way"  ;D

I had tickets for acdc at Adelaide oval last year but sold them to a mate of mine as his need was greater than mine. I offered them to him one night when we were out at dinner - he was nearly in tears! He owes me!! ;D

Anyway, fully off topic.

Thanks mate.
It's like a new lease on life and especially after being approached.

It's funny how you think that sometimes you might be getting a bit over the hill for anyone to want you to work for them but it only goes prove the point that dedication, persistance and shootin' from the hip will win over.
It is a hectic time that I could do without, although the return for the effort is a step in the right direction.

Gee, thinking back to the old Fraternity & ACDC days certainly taxes the old memory bank.  ;D
Was it Darryl Cotton who was the Fraternity front man mate?
If I ever write a book about my life, those times will most definately play a major part - As hazy as they were back then.  8)
But John Lennon said that if you can remember the 70's, you weren't there - Point taken.  ;)

Nah Mick, Cotton was the lead singer of Zoot. We've been to a few shows with russel morris, Darryl cotton and Jim keayes (masters apprentices) and they are awesome together. Morris and Brian cadd are fantastic together too.
Bon Scott was the lead singer of the original fraternity. The band later had John swan and his brother, some bloke called jimmy Barnes as lead singers too.
I'm sending this from my phone (and cant drive it properly) but if you do a YouTube for "seasons of change" by fraternity there is the young Bon Scott. Great song.

Saturday 21 April: Strapped GZ onto the instruments & headed off to Marybourough to hand off to Trueblue.
I took the long way around to get up there, the highway would've been too boring.
First stop was at Australia Zoo. Unfortunately Steve 'Crikey' Irwin is no longer with us, so we didn't go in. Mick might find a real croc for the lizard in Darwin.
As you can tell by the sky in the photos, it was a perfect day for riding.

Just up the road a bit is the Ettamogha Pub, purpously built skewiff, with an old truck on the roof. It's a fairly famous tourist attraction. It was too early in the day for a beer though.

From there, up the highway a bit & turned off to Cooroy, Pomona, Kin Kin & Tin Can Bay before heading into Marybourough to meet Trueblue for the hand off. There were heaps of great scenery on the way, but nowhere really safe to pull up for the best shots. This is one I was able to grab though. So green after recent rain.

Andrew & Hannah were kind enough to put me up for the night & feed me as well. That's what's great about this relay, meeting like minded people & treating em like family. We went for a ride after GZ got onto Trublue's 650 & I met Andrew's cousin Les on the way. He has a Goldwing in his shed. We shared a cuppa & a few yarns.

The official hand off.

I headed down to Hervey Bay after leaving GZ in the care of Andrew & Hannah, had breakfast at a fine lil cafe & headed back home feeling on top of the world. Thanks for organising the Relay, it was great to be part of it.
Just as I was riding into Hervey Bay I caught a glimpse of what I was sure was a CB turning into a service station. I did a u turn & pulled up beside it at the pump. Sure nuff, was a 550 with Joe & Jill on board going on a club run with the local vintage bike club. I sure was tempted to join the ride, but had to consider getting home on time. I've given them the address for this forum, I hope they get to see their picture.

If I've learnt anything from the trip, it's to put some lighter oil in the front forks. In the main it's okay, but when you hit a reasonable bump at speed, it's like having someone on the back & they whack you between the shoulder blades with their fist. I think I might wake up a bit sore, but not sorry.

In all I travelled 1,293 Kms, 858 Kms with GZ in my care, so I guess I'm in the 500 mile club.  8)

It's true........ You do meet the nicest people on a Honda.

Happy Trails Godzilla.  ;)

Frostyboy and GZ arrived this arvo, we went for a short ride and I'm not sure GZ was sure he likes the 650 because he tried to jump ship at 120kph, but I convinced him it was a real SOHC4 and he settled down for the rest of the ride.  Now we're sitting on the back verandah having a couple of brews while GZ checks out the 32mm carbs for my 650 engine build.

Yes, I remembered the Zoot (or Pink Zoot) from the old Pooraka Pub days.
I had an Austin Westminster back then painted Flat Black with a brush.  ;D
It was the pride of the fleet.
