selling parts on here
« on: April 11, 2012, 11:46:34 AM »
OK i sold a switch to member on here the switch came off a 76 cb550t he gets it says its not the switch and that someone sometime had repaired it. he said it did not work ok so i agreed to refund the money well i get it open up the box. the starter button switch is broken it wont even stay in the housing.now he said it's the honorable thing to refund the money the switch was apparently taken apart and broken.so now paypal is involved should i argue the fact that it's damage or should we meet in the middle I'm not trying to develop a bad name on here but this really pisses me off.i have sold and bought stuff from this site and have never had any problems until now. would like some input has anybody had problems like this on here. thanks jimmy

Was it a possiblility that the switch was damaged in shipping? If that is the case they need to take it up with UPS.
If it went out intact and working I don't see how this is your problem.

So then he broke it.
Was the shipping box damaged? I assume it was packed carefully to avoid damage?

when i shipped it it was wrapped it was clearly taken apart. and it was 50.00 the money is not the issue it the Principal of the fact that it was damaged when returned to me.i know one thing is for certain from this day forward as is where is no returns. i'm just trying to do right but it's seems it's biting me on the a$$

If there was no damage to the shipping box and it was packed properly, he broke it.

If it was damaged in shipping, as in the shipper played kickball with the box it was shipped in it is their fault and shipping insurance would pay him up to $100 or something like that.

You should have told him to take up the issue with the shipper because it is not your problem, you shipped him a perfectly intact part.

By accepting the part back you accepted the liability of making it right- it was your fault so you get to eat the costs.

A recent experience that I had does not involve selling parts, but shipping in general.  I shipped a set of carbs for a rebuild.  I took them apart and wrapped them up real carefully, at least I thought I did.  I wrapped the total box with packing tape on the outside so that no one could get into the box and nothing could get out.  When the package arrived at the other end one of the lifter arms was broken off; I believe the box even had a puncture wound from the arm trying to escape the box.  I forgot to remember that the package is handled by gorillas during the shipping process.  I now remember to package it twice, once for me and once for the gorillas.

Fortunately I had another lifter assembly to ship to replace the one that was broken.

I look at the way DSS packages and they are almost bullet proof.  I received my HM300's without a dent or mark.

I sold and= bought several things here and e-bay with no unpleasantness.

Once I was distracted and forgot to send fender stays and made it a bit more PITA for both of us.

Maybe he didn't break it. Maybe he was the one that repaired it by removing the good button and installing his broken one then sent it back. Maybe......... lots of possibilities, huh?! It's a shame but you need to take detailed pictures before something is sent out anymore. My daughter has sold a few electronics on EBay. First thing I do is let the buyer know what serial number they are getting with detailed pictures. I do not want to deal with reverse bait and switchers and have their bad product returned as mine. If you want to make money our site is not the place to do that. Here we are doing friends favors. Cover yer ass!

it's the start button

It's the same part, it doubles for either one, at least that's what the part description indicates.

It's not the same part on a 76. I believe the 76 has the headlight switch built in so it turns off when you crank the engine. Sounds like buyer may have a different problem on his bike. wonder if he will chime in?

all i know is that i took it off a 1976 cb500t i sent him pictures he said it would work. now he is accusing me of fraud by selling him a part that wasn't as described in the emails. the transaction was for 50.00 shipped i offered him 40.00 back i don't know if i should post his user name or not so it doesn't happen to other members i belive he switched the button/i do not know why a person would do that ,when you can buy replacements.i would not have sent him a broken switch i would not do that to anyone. it was working properly when it was sent now the little ring that holds it into the housing is broken so it won't stay in the housing.so the bottom line should i post his user name in the bad sellers with a bad buyer topic. or if agrees on the 40.00 dollars chalk it up as a learning experience in the future.thanks for the replys

Traded a part, did not get anytrhing back.. hope to hell they send a pic to the post office incase it escaped the package..  But hey I have made deals where I have not finished up on , a take care of it when you can one..

Jimmy, can you post up your correspondence with him and leave out his name? I'd like to see if during the conversations there was any room for misinterpretation. If not then my suggestion would be to tell him to fornicate himself publicly. If there was room for misintrepretation then you gotta do whats right. I'm also believing there is concern for fraud and deceit on the buyer's part by switching out his broken pieces onto Jimmy's part and crying fowl on Jimmy. Kinda like the women that buy a new dress for an event or date then return it to the store the next day as unused.

I've met Jimmy and I believe what he is telling us. I don't think he would be on here with this otherwise. Why bring it here?! What purpose would it serve?! If this buyer is reading this thread I'm hoping you'll do what's right.

That is why sellers should take extensive pics BEFORE shipout and if it shows up broken to the seller then it is the SHIPPER's problem to deal with, not the sellers.

That is the only way to avoid potential fraud situations like this.
Once you say you will take it back you are obligated to make it right.

i would man up if the part was broken it was not when it was shipped. when he got it he said there was extra wires he tried it said it would not work said some one had repaired it re soldered it. i did not notice that. he had to have taken it apart i looked on some other switches i have and you can hardly see where it is soldered. i'm waiting his reply i told him i would give back 40.00 the 10.00 dollars is what it's going to cost me to replace the butto.as far as the emails i have them all.i will post them as soon as my son can get them out of the sent file for me.as DukieFrankenkit posted i have a bunch of pictures showing them still on the handle bars i took off the bike. they are actually very nice set of switches. i did regret selling the start switch i would have used them on another bike of mine because they where a lot nicer.
