I better get a hold of FunJimmy.. what he said about 6th of July could work well with a small detour. We have vintage Races in Vernon that weekend.. if they cross the border at Osoyoos/Oroville on Saturday then head north 130 miles they can spend the night at the vintage track..
we could take GZ for a few laps on the track on a sohc, then on the vintage ride in the AM, then they can continue on to Vancouver.. We have a couple riders here that could join them part way and ride up to the races with the GZ group..

Consider it moved... Er... Copied.
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

Here is another proposal.  Either I or scondon, or both of us, can get GZ to western Washington next weekend.  Funjimmy, brandem, tweakin or anybody else there who wants to can take custody of Lefty.  Perhaps in the course of their ride through the north Cascades into B.C. a handoff can be made to someone there.  From there, is there anyone who can help Lefty make his way east?

I don't mind making the ride to western Washington if it means the relay can continue, but if Lefty is going to end up getting mailed anyway, the effort will be for naught.  It would be about a 1200 mile round trip for me, and considering the prices in Oregon and Washington, at least a 125 buck expense just for gas.  Again I don't mind doing it if the payoff is the relay goes on unabated, but if there is no one to carry on, it would be a futile (and expensive) gesture.

Can we get some discussion going around this?

754, can you hook up with Seaweb and do a little of the relay? Doesn't look like you'd need to ride very far. Say, Seattle area into BC then east to AB maybe?? Don't we have a couple AB guys that could meet you then head into MT to handoff?? Wes is out there in NB. He's a real rider. Maybe he could meet someone from AB??

Just don't understand why we don't seem to have any WA or OR riders that can help GZ get a ride for even a few miles?! Doesn't take much. That's why this is called a R-E-L-A-Y.

Greg/Ofreen always does a zillion miles and bails us out. SCondon is talking about riding all the way from San Fran to help out once again. Come on guys, come out of the woodwork and do a few miles each. GZ pride! SOHC4 p-ride.

If we can't get some riders soon we may as well just bypass that corner area of the map. No sense in begging guys to actually use their bikes. There are too many riders waiting along the proposed route to wait much longer. Forget UPS, GZ may just need to head east from where he is.

Who's gonna help GZ??

Team Northern, where/when can you guys get GZ?

Jerry, I got a dying motor, if I didnt and had ebnough gas.. I would be covering the bigger distances like Greg has. Plus the weather has been bad this year. By the time funjimmy wants to do it should be great weather and I have a fewbikes here want to join in. As in if the ride  goes thru/near here. I put the bug in one riders ear that has 2 bikes ready to go, but they have to decide they want to do this..
Maybe I can flog and change motors..

Sounds positive!

What about you FunJimmy? You still up for fun?

We gotta check in on Team Northern and see if they can work with you guys. Sound like a plan?

I posted on another forum looking for riders. I am asking a member in Eastern BC near AB border if he can make it to the Vernon event. That may mean GZ not getting to coast, or they go seattle straight up earlier. If the eastern BC rider can get it near AB be a big help..
Not insisting it has to be that way, just offering a scenario that may help.

Hoping FunJimmy can make his end work and get GZ to you Frank?? Seaweb doesn't seem to be able to help this year. Just spoke with him last night. He's just not the man he used to be  ;D ;) (hidden meaning lol)

Any eastern BC riders or AB riders listening in that can help as Frank is suggesting?

Anyone in Montana? Anyone know Montana riders that can contact them directly? Same for AB.

I've posted on Team Northern hoping to get riders and Teams PNW and Northern together on the same page.

I spoke with Greg last night, and have begun making plans to meet up. Not much that I can do to ensure that GZ makes it through, but can at least try and see that he has some company on the road.

My schedule is somewhat flexible because I just plan on calling in sick on Friday, and dead the following Monday. If necessary I can postpone a week and go north with Greg from Idaho. The two reasons I am willing to do this are that a) I love to ride for days on end, and b) I feel it necessary to keep the rally on schedule because even if there's zero delay it's slated to go into October. Delaying it even a couple weeks now pushes the East Coast riders towards shorter days and worsening weather. Also, anyone who has plans in place would have to change them. Here's the schedule so we all have the same reference:

http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=101662.0

The West and Northern states are difficult I think because there are a LOT of miles to cover, and riders are spread out. Connecting the dots is near impossible without a big commitment of time, and gas money.  To put it in perspective It's a 1,000 mile round trip to get GZ from his current location to the next scheduled leg. Not many can do this on a 40 year-old bike, or endure 2-3 days on said bike, so by no means do I fault anyone who can't pull that kind of effort. Also, life happens everyday and "willing" and "able" often part company, so the pool of riders that could "do the deed" shrinks further.

All I could hope is that we can pool our limited resources and get a plan in place that works to get GZ to a point in the rally where he can continue on schedule.

Jerry,
Thanks for pitching in, I've run out of ideas. Besides multiple posts and threads asking for help, I've PM'd and e-mailed every PNW rider I could find (approx 30 total) and only recieved a couple of responses, which were simply courtesy responses to tell me they would not be able to participate.

ofreen,
Your take on the matter pretty much mirrored my own. I know you were hoping for a little more subdued role this year, thanks for all of your efforts (and patience too)!

754,
Thanks for the extra efforts to reach out to other riders in the area. Every little link in the chain helps.

Scondon,
    Well said.

And thanks to all the riders that have gotten us this far, especially those that have made extra efforts such as coke, Scottly, and many others. Everyone's contribution is appreciated. If delays are necessary, hopefully they can be minimized since this impacts all of the downstream riders trying to make plans of their own.

I'm beginning to agree with Jerry's post from yesterday. If we can't get riders to ride in our area, maybe Lefty should just start his way to the east coast. I'm not trying to be mean but if there isn't enough interest in this area to get him through it maybe he should just turn his nose up and go the other way. It has been said before that the U.S.A. is the only county that is obsessed with Lefty passing through every state, but over The last couple weeks we've been struggling with two states, both of which I know have plenty of riders with running riding bikes that could easily make the trip work. I'm talking 100 - 300 miles a piece to get Lefty to Canada.

Greg I want to extend my gratitude to you for putting so much effort in, both this year and last. However there comes a point where the burden shouldn't be on your shoulders, and passed back to the other riders in the area.

I would also like to thank Scondon for even considering coming up from the bay area to carry the Patton over a region that is not his responsibility. That attitude is what this relay is all about, the desire to ride. I am completely with you too on the loving riding for days on end.

Lastly I don't want anyone/area left out of the relay, but there's a breaking point where twisting peoples arms to try to get something done that should be enjoyable is too much. I say if no one in Oregon or Washington is gonna be able to carry Lefty though maybe east is the answer. At least we'll be able to say the relay was never broken, and it was all done on sohc Hondas.

Hey Greg,

I’m sorry I wish I could meet you in Idaho and chaperone GZ’s tour of Oregon and Washington, but I’m flat out of available vacation time at work, but I’m all over having him join us on the Cascade loop to Whistler. Have you contacted Tige and BrandEn about swinging mid point to meet you?

If those guys have custody of GZ, he’ll be spending a fun filled and adventure packed weekend with some crazy SOHC’ers.

Frank, can you get one of your cowboys to PU GZ in Osoyoos or possibly in Penticton?
We won’t be able to get as far north as Vernon on this trip.

Cheers
FJ

Yeah, I've had about the same rate of responses, both years. At least you/we know the non-responders were aware of the relay. Anyway, the whole idea this year was to put the emphasis on FUN! We achieved one hell of an accomplishment last year, so the pressure is off. I know I enjoyed my ride more this year than last year. ;D
Sean, Greg, assuming Lefty might end up in a cardboard box in any case, where would you both like to ride??? Your call, IMHO.

Wec are probably racing in Vernon on the  Saturday, so hard to ride out till later in the day. I just realized that Gregk may not even be riding, he might be over in GF Strong.. I asked one guy if he wanted to ride tro meet but he just plain does not know if he wants to do it.. another seemed interested but is on a sohc flAtfour.
At any rate Sat nite at the ranch is pretty entertaining... but sounds like it may not work..

Chief: Mickey6 two posts up. Start at the beginning page to see the whole picture.

Indians: Only two so far who have made commitments. Want to make it three? Get in touch with Mickey6. As it stands there's an option to get GZ into Seattle, but no option to get him out. Needs to be in Montana around July 7th. Ride schedule is linked to a few posts up. If you can get him to Montana, we can get him to you.

Wow, I see the concern.
Running through BC on the route I was suggesting does nothing to keep GZ on course and just further delays his date with Montana. That sucks!
If I had available holidays I’d love the adventure, but I’m squeezing little rides here and there on weekends only.

Hey Greg,

I’m sorry I wish I could meet you in Idaho and chaperone GZ’s tour of Oregon and Washington, ...

I never expected that.  Just a meet-up somewhere in between.  I suggested eastern Washington.  It's only about 165 miles from the Seattle area to Yakima over Chinook Pass, for instance.   HWY 410/Chinook Pass is a fine little ride to Yakima or even just to Naches and back and easily done in a day.  But, even if we did that, the problem remains on how to get GZ eastbound after that.

Greg, if you had your druthers, where would you like to ride? Of course, you will need to document it, so we can all feel like we are riding along. 8)

Hi Guys, I'm trying to catch up on what ur doing - but holy balls there are a lot of threads and a lot of info to put together  :-[

I'm a Montana rider and would be glad to lend a hand to this noble effort, depending on if I can get it to work with my schedule. I am in the midst of painting a house - which means I will take the slimmest excuse for diversion  ;D

I'm located in Billings - ride a CB550, so my distance will be somewhat limited as it is a recent purchase so I would hate to get TOO many miles away from safe harbor - but that said, I've just put quite a lot of work into it, so it would be lovely to flog this beautiful ol bike for some miles in the interest of a worthy cause.

My only restrictions are that I'm in the midst of lining the tank right now - but depending on the timeframe that should be complete and ready within a week. I do have another bike I could use, but it is the wrong flavor and a relative youngster, so I'm not sure if that counts  :-\

If I can help, just let me know and I get back immed and let you know if I can make the arrangements - lord knows I owe some paying it forward to the group  :)

good to have you aboard ;D.I appreciate the interest. currently we are working towards getting Godzilla through Oregon and Washington then into Canada. If we can make this happen and say have a rider in Great Falls, Montana go up to Alberta for a hand off. The rider could bring him down to Great Falls or farther if he/she chooses to hand off to you. Once you have Lefty you could do the had off with team northern in or near North Dakota, say Glendive, Montana or Dickinson, North Dakota (depending on how far you feel safe taking a new machine).

If I lived in Seattle, but Vancouver BC is a tad farther north.

Sorry about the error.  You mentioned Seattle a couple of times in your posts and there is no location noted on your profile.
