CB750 Case Bolts
« on: October 13, 2013, 08:46:55 PM »
I know there are already plenty of threads on this but I could not find the answer I was looking for.

Most of the bolts for the casing have some sort of rust on them, so naturally I will replace them, most likely stainless so I don't have to worry about the quality of the chrome and eventually looking crap after a couple of years.

However the Case bolts that hold the crank in place obviously should not be stainless, I have seen a kit for a set of lower main case bearing studs, has anyone used these? are they worth the extra cash over normal HT bolts?

From my understanding studs and bolts can safely be tightened with less risk of stripping a thread.

There are quite a few sets of the APE case studs and the APE cylinder studs out there, me included. The main purpose is to get more torque on them and less leaking. That's probably more relevant in the cylinder studs however. Most of us that use the case studs do so for the higher strength on our high performance engines.

I have used stainless allen head on the covers and polished them to a chrome-like shine and replaced all the 6mm flange bolts top and bottom with new Honda bolts. I doubt you'll find stainless flange bolts and would need to use washers which I will not do.

"From my understanding studs and bolts can safely be tightened with less risk of stripping a thread".  Not sure I understand what you mean on this??

Yes guys I meant studs and bolts, the main reason I have asked this question is because the bolts need replacing and I read somewhere that the correct bolts are hard to come by. So considering I will end up with an 836 kit and higher comp, then I don't want less than satisfactory bolts holding the crank in place.

Having the original case bolts re-plated with zinc is another option to make them look factory fresh.

I didn't think of this, however if the rust has caused some pitting then wouldn't that weaken the bolt to a degree, even if it was small pitting?
