Topic: Can't get this alternator cover off!

I've been heating it up with a heat gun & whacking it with a rubber mallet for about a half hour now and it won't come loose. Is there a secret to this thing?

 there is a knock pin at lower left, about 7 o'clock, and the starter motor reduction gear has its shaft that inserts into the cover.
keep at it with the heat, but go easy with the mallet

can you get the trans cover off first?  might allow for some leverage

yes, you did, but will you come to his aid when he breaks the cover or pushes the knock pin out through the lower case?

The winking smiley (  ) implies tongue-in-cheek. Patient, methodical approach is required for nearly everything that is attempted with these old machines and I'm pretty sure tugboat has been around the forum long enough to understand that.

I understood you mad...but seeing that he'd been at it with a mallet already, I thought best to error on the safe side
