Wrecked after 3+ years of work.....
« on: May 09, 2014, 12:46:47 AM »
Sad news after 3+ years of getting my 73 cb750k up and running.....

Michigans first 80+ degree day and a great day to ride the bike to work. I had been watching the calendar for days in anticipation for this day, final hot and finally dry. On my way to an afternoon apt and a delivery drive who didn't want to wait in his lane for cars to go decided to make a quick decision and pull over into my lane. Absolutely no other option then to lock them up for about three feet and crash into his passenger side front quarter panel at about 35. I went over the bars and flew about 10 feet before landing on my back on the concrete and then barrel rolling until I came to a stop face down in the grass. All things considered I'm ended up really really lucky. Jacked up toe, crazy lump on my knee, two incredibly sore shoulders, and a fractured or bone chip in my elbow. Thank god I was wearing me helmet, because my head bounced.

Now the sad news.... I have been trying to get this bike done for years. With little money and even less knowledge I tore into this thing. I relied on members to walk me through simple fixes that seemed complicated to me. Untold dallors on parts, hours in the garage, and ten times as many reading  and researching. This summer was suppose to be nothing but riding, just putting on miles ever chance I could get; now over just 75 miles into the season. I haven't got a chance to inspect to closely yet, but at a bare minimum I'm looking at trashed mirrors, pegs, gauges, ears, front fender, engine case, tank, handle bars, throttle, and exhaust... And I'm sure I didn't catch it all....

So 3:30 in the morning and unable to sleep due to pain, sadness, and anger I had to share my store with the only people who would understand....

So everyone have a cold one for me and a cold one for my bike this weekend....

That would break your heart, all that effort. Hope the bike is not to bad, but would be so hard to start again. But your ok, your family still have you in one piece, know it does not help much, but mate it could of been so much worse.

Man I'm really sorry to hear that but I'm glad that YOU are ok first. Let's hope there's not much else on the bike to fix and those parts are easy to come by and not too too pricey. Glad you wore that helmet i can't understand why any biker wouldn't these days.

Sorry to hear that. I had been following your build as I had looked at your bike when it was first for sale up in Grant and knew the other Guy you eventually bought it from.
Glad your not banged up too bad but check back in after the dust settles a little bit and get yourself checked out well if needed.  Bikes can be replaced.

Your lucky, could have been much worse.  Unfortunately, accidents happen, I've been there too.

MI has no fault insurance? That means your ins co will settle with you? The bike can be rebuilt as long as the frame isn't bent, you could be rolling again in a month or so.

Bitter!

Glad you had on your helmet.  As others have said, while losing the bike sucks, it can be replaced.  You can't replace your noggin.  Hopefully insurance gets squared away, so you can get riding again.  I'll drink one for you and one for the bike.

Peace,

Been there done that............does suck.....still waiting to settle, form my Oct accident. As stated b4, staying down and getting that very uncomfortable ride to the hospital is well worth the effort.

Heal well, heal fast bro............hopefully the insurance company will treat you right.

Glad you are ok!  How was hitting your back on the pavement?

You have insurance right? and the other guy has insurance too?  You should be better than fine in regards to your bike.  They will consider it a total loss and you can just buy a nice one from one of us nut jobs...  Or buy like 3-4 #$%*ty ones with the money and rebuild them all because you're a nut job as well.  If you ask me... get a new bike, like I mean 2014...  ride it and enjoy it and run away from all of us here like it was a bad dream....
