Yeah, that's nice. I believe the coils that come with are actually Subaru coils. Maybe I'll join the local Subaru club, haha.

So you guys with the C5 and the 650, has anyone else installed it yet? Is your plate too small? I spoke with Paul and sent him pictures and video of how sloppy the plate was and he says he's going to make new ones. Currently this plate is used for the CB650 and CBX1000, but it really only fits the CBX1000. Anyone who previously bought a C5 for the 650 can trade their plate in for the new one once they're made. Not sure how long that'll be, might want to give him an email in a couple weeks. Or, you can file notches like I did.  Works just fine once it's tightened down.

Thanks for the heads up, Dave.  I haven't taken mine out of the box.  I'll have to have a look.

No problem guys, other than that it fits nice! I did have trouble pushing the included shaft into the crank because the o-ring he uses seems a hair fat. I swapped o-rings with an OEM one I had. But maybe someone with normal human male strength would be able to do it...

Is there anything wrong with giving coils a constant power source? The C5 says that it's recommended to run power and ground directly to the battery. Do coils draw power without being triggered by the ignition? I'd rather not run a relay to turn them on but will if I have to.

The C5 uses an optical sensor to trigger the coils on and off (apparently much more precisely than a Dyna) so that's why you can use a 3 ohm coil without failures due to longer charging durations and heat.  http://www.c5ignitions.com/c5-technology.html

Right, but I'm curious if it's good practice to give a constant 12 volts to the coils. Even when key is off.

No, they shouldn't be powered if the bike isn't running.

Some bikes the coils if left on overnight will cause them to overheat and burn out a winding.  CA95 was said to be subject to this...
gotta drop the motor to access coilson some Honda bikes, fortunately many of those are small displacement and easy to drop...

Well, I'd have to think that it wouldn't be an issue to leave power to them at all times. Otherwise it would mention to use a relay or use switched power in the manual. But it says, "We recommend the coil power and ground leads go directly to the battery." Of course my power will be fused also.

I use relays in mine, so battery + supplies the relay directly, but the relay is triggered by a kill switch, or on a street bike by both the key switch & kill. Indeed Dyna coils will overheat if power is left on.

So ignition is done and I'm officially just waiting on my jet kit to come in. Got 2 oil changes worth of high zinc break in oil and I'm just trying to calm my nerves while thinking about the first start up.

One little thing I feel like documenting is that I'm running the crank breather hose behind the motor. I have use a crank case filter breather on my 550 and after it gets saturated with oil it just drips over the #3 rubber carb insulators and then the motor. Not fun. An actual tube is much nicer. Got some buna-n hose from McMaster for that.

I have a combo hose into an Uni filter. It keeps most of the satuated oil drip down to a minimum,

I was thinking of doing a catch cam but I decided against it. But now, maybe I'll at least add a little filter foam or a piece of cloth at the end so nothing climbs up there and tries to ruin my cam. I'm pretty sure earlier bikes only had a hose. The later one's, of course, were routed into the airbox.

Oh my god. It's running. So far it seems to be running very nicely. Can't find any real issues yet, but I'm still looking :)

After a short ride the power is very noticeable, even without the dyno tune. I'll go on a limb and say it's damn fast, haha. Speaking of tuning, the jets that Mike from Powerbarn recommended for my setup is SUPER close. I can't feel any weird spots over 1/4 throttle and there's no back firing on decel. Probably rich in the pilot circuit as there's a slight bogging at a little over 1/8ish throttle. The dyno tune should be fairly easy, fingers crossed!

Also, the Hindle sounds amazing.

Going to try and put 50 miles on it today then change the oil. Psyched!
