new Latching electrical connectors? size?
« on: May 31, 2015, 04:51:45 AM »
I'm going through my harness and replacing all the old bullets with new ones and want to change out the latching a connectors as well.

It looks like http://vintageconnections.com/ has two sizes for this crimps within the plastic box. 6.3mm and 2.8? Do I need the 2.8? and to get the old ones out short of cutting it at the base, does the ETL2 Terminal Extraction Tool get them out of the block easier?

Thanks!

Tim, I take a paper clip and hammer one end flat, insert that to flatten the tang then simply pull the wire/connector out.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Sounds much better than spending $15! Thanks jerry.

Depends on how much use you get out of it. Buying tools is half the fun! Seriously though, I have refurbished the entire harness of three CB750's and will probably do at least three more.

The nice thing about the Vintage Connections tool is there are three different straight prongs of varying thickness that can help on the more stubborn connectors. Shouldn't be too hard to find or fabricate a suitable substitute though.

I am all for being frugal too... I had to fabricate a fixture tool for my dual overhead cam V6 Saturn Vue (four cams) just to replace the timing belt. The four cams have to be held stationary while the belt is changed out and the tool for this procedure cost $800!  :o
