Is the SOHC4 Madness waning finally?
« on: October 02, 2015, 02:33:38 PM »
Just curious because this guy has been trying to sell this bike for a while now. Maybe a couple of months anyway. I think $3500 for the way it looks and completeness it would've sold by now. I've seen a lot worse asking a lot more. Just curious.  The color may not be original to 72 but it's still pretty clean bike with title and stock exhaust. Maybe I'm wrong? Any 750 experts care to pick it apart for me and tell me why it's not selling? Maybe the whole SOHC4 as collector thing is not as crazy as it has been? I sold a 550F for $3000 in a couple of weeks last fall (2014). I think this bike is worth a lot more than a 550 or 400F. BTW $3500 around here for a clean running SOHC4 is nothing. People are asking $4000+ for 400Fs which is beyond my comprehension.

I am tempted to buy it myself if I wasn't in the middle of an expensive bathroom remodel. (The wife would not be happy with another bike I don't have time to wrench on  ;D)

It does look good, but there's not much info in the description. Price is now $3k btw. It's also Fall in NW, so not the best time to buy a bike there. Doesn't seem like a bad price to me, but I'm on the hunt for cheaper projects myself.

I think it is actually.  I'm seeing a bit more action for the DOHCs.

You may have a point, but we're coming up on the Holidays and Fall  and not the best time to sell.

Getting ready for a bath remodel here too.  Granite counter, new fixtures, travertine floor and walls including shower, frameless enclosure.  Thought about demo'n the bathtub that never gets used, but it will remain.

Your plan?

I'm not so sure the SOHC madness ever started in my area in the first place. Potential buyers around here are some of the most tight wad penny pinching lowballers I've ever seen.

Worth every penny from what I see.

I like my bikes a little more crunch than that one.  I'd be afraid to scratch that bike

Actually same here too. It was a year ago in October when I sold my 550F and it went quick!

Stev-o, dude a bath remodel will take a serious bite out of your cycle fund! I've been working on mine for over a year, unfortunately the closer I get to the finish line the more expensive it becomes.  :o

Actually, no it wont, I have an agreement with my wife:  I don't use "family money" for my bikes, so bike fund is totally mine!

Plan to pick granite for the counter this week and of course will need new sinks and faucets [oiled bronze].  And we've picked the floor tile, it will be Travertine set in a herringbone pattern [I'm the tile setter].
We plan to do it in phases rather than tear it all up at once.

There's a similar one near here and a decent one for $800 in North Pekin Il.

It looks like prices are still climbing around here. I know of a '75 750F that is for sale for $152,986. The price will be over $153,000 when I get home from work this evening.

I just hope the NOS CB750K2 gets purchased by the right collector/buyer who can appreciate all of the time, money and work put into it!

We plan to do it in phases rather than tear it all up at once.

We tore it up.

I've been working every other  weekend on a friend's bathroom for  over a year. We found some leftover granite that he is going to have cut to fit. The pergo flooring all came out of Lumber Liquidator's dumpster, and looks great now that it's installed.  I found four 10' sheets of gypsum leftovers that was enough to finish without buying any. As many corners as we cut, it is still expensive.

The big expense was not just the shower stall, but it installation on a level surface to drain in a 100 year old house. Shoring up and leveling  was  huge in back breaking labor, a  bucket brigade of gooey clay out of the house. It wasn't as easy as shoveling, it stuck to the shovel and each scoop had to be scraped off.   Mixing and pouring concrete pads  in a crawl space is a PITA.

Now about   all that's left is the  fun stuff. :o

Wifes and bathrooms; there is something wrong with relationship, don't you think?

I have taken showers places my wife would not walk in in waders, LOL.
