"Needs a new oil plug" sounds potentially expensive.
Wanna lay bets on how much torque was put on that mother and that the oil pan is cracked?

I bought my CB750 for $700, non-running/titled, but I knew I had the ability to get it to run once I made sure it turned over and shifted thru the gears.  Everything else could be fixed with time and $.
I had the time, and because my my wife share a laptop, I wont post how much it costs to bring back to life.
Its been a very reliable bike ever since.

Non-running...I wouldn't drop over $1000. 
You'll need to budget at least up to that amount just to get it roadworthy, and safe.

I bought it for 800 today. Drained the bad gas and replaced the battery.

Fired right up and sounds great!

OK. So we have a non running bike that the guy would let go for 1500 but said would be 2500 if he were to have made it run. You offered 800 and he took it. Based on the picture you put up it looked to be worth 800 but not 1500. You shook the dice and you won!!! Is it titled? If yes....a bonus. Enjoy your new bike 8)
