My name on the inside of my mailbox
« on: March 29, 2018, 05:40:53 pm »
Came home today and discovered my last name has been written on the inside of my mailbox.

What's that all about?  Word on the web is that the Post Office is requiring that but I've never heard of anything.  Why would they care who lives at that address?

Because mail carriers can't be bothered to read the entire address on the envelope. This is supported by the numerous mail and packages that we receive that are addressed to someone else, often on an entirely different street. There are daily posts on our neighborhood Facebook page about delivery errors, and we are a small neighborhood...

It's so when you come home drunk you can make sure that you are at the right house. It's a "special" tax payer funded program.......might even be a constitutional right!

Even with having my name inside my mailbox and the carrier knowing me I STILL get mail for other 2810's in the area especially from the other 2810 "D"xxxx address. It's intent is for accuracy. My box is a group type box in the middle of the block for the entire block. The fill in carriers don't know me so it's bound to help them. I also get an email picture preview every morning of the day's mail I will receive.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

We have another 1718 two blocks north on another street. We're always getting their mail. .

I have been in my current house for 16 years and still get mail from someone with a different middle initial. With a first name like Michel you wouldn't think it would happen often, but it does. I think he owes money to someone.

A retailer had someone else's name at our address, we got collection notes for years. My wife finally went to their office and got it corrected. Or terminated her second identity.

Tracked a part for my Jeep.  Took a few days to get from Phoenix to Detroit.  Someone at the distribution center here couldn't read the correct address and it ended up by Ann Arbor where it sat for over a week.  Post office employee no help.  Finally arrived.  I guess reading is not a requirement for employment there.

They did it to mine a few months ago. Turns out the postlady's handwriting is actually worse than my own.
