I'm pretty far from being a gentleman myself.  ;)  ::)

Brought MickeyX's bike home from the shop.  We had a heyday shopping for parts/toys.  I got something, too, but I'll post pics later. :D ;D

This is what I've been doing for the last 2 days.

Mmmm, can you say dado?  This is one of two bookshelves mocked up so I could get the measurements for the base and the back.  The other one is identical to this one.  Now I just have to prime, paint, and assemble them.  3 coats of paint and just shy of 500 screws.  That should be easy right? ::) ::)

Cool.  I had my dado out a few weeks ago, but for a considerably smaller project.  Be thankful you don't have to dado the back.  Although if you could, you wouldn't need any other fasteners!

Woahhh it's snowing here in a serious way.  I hope I don't get stranded up here!  MickeyX, we're going to need a good mushing team, and I think we've only got a few hours to get one together!

Nope, but if I was building these for someone else, I'd charge about 1500 per section.   ;)

I actually routed everything because trying to do it on a table saw would have involved a lot more cursing.  I made a jig for the router so everything went pretty smoothly, but it still took about 20 hours to cut everything.  Trying to dado the back makes my head hurt just thinking about it.  I still think I would want to screw it together though cause it's only 1/2 inch ply and they are 8 feet tall, so the whole thing would want to parallelogram.

yeah, it snowed here. The firetrucks haven't shut up for even a few minutes for about 4 hrs now. They really have no clue how to drive in this. In PA where I'm from and WI where Kit is from, they wouldn't even bother to salt or plow or anything. 2" is a dusting. So, I have to go get Kit in this. I know how to handle it, it's those other idiots I'm worried about. They hit city buses when it's sunny and nice out. Can you imagine what is going on out there right now? This is last year I believe. It is a very slight grade of a hill...

......... well heck... if we're going to all the hassle of making a jig and routing all those grooves... why not dovetail the pieces and save a few hundred screws?

dado the back is the easy part.... dig out the vertical grooves then cheat and cut the shelves short.

 ;)

looks pretty sharp anyhow.

Yeah, uh, when your car is sliding sideways like that, I'm not sure if there's much of ANYTHING you can do.  I remember the year before last, how disappointed I was in my new car (and its low pro tires) in the 2 360* spins I did within 3 miles.  Never had those problems with my Geo Metro in WI or in Eugene, even when I nearly got buried up to my axles... still decent traction, even with the underbody! :D

People out here scare me... our ER is freakin' hopping today, too.  :o Lots of blood runs.

I wish we had taken pics of what Kit bought at the bike parts place last night. It will blow your minds when you see what she ended up with in the end. The woman has talent.  ;D (and patience)

Hey Kit and X , good job in the Sportster! I saw it over on that XL forum. Looks bad ass.

I debated picking up a sportster because you can find them cheap around here but my bro already warned me if he caught me on a "Chickster" he and his buddies would take turns kicking my ass....lol. Guess I gotta keep saving my pennies for at least the 1200

Dennis

p.s. my brother can afford to be a dick...he just went out and bought 2 brand new Harley's this year! A Street Glide and an Ultra Classic....big $$$'s. Yeah I kinda hate him at times lol!

Thanks. It's not like a big restoration or anything (oh, thank Dog, I don't think I could handle another right now :-\ No offense and it could have been much worse but... Damn! Ya know?) but the Sporty was a neat project for what we had to do. I do have pics from today now that she's home in the carport. It actually snowed here in Portland. Imagine that! It was early in the day so it's just a dusting on the bikes but I will try to post some pics over on the XL forum. I think I should be able to by now. I may need a few posts yet. Not sure. I still love Kit's CB650. It made me understand just what a MC is supposed to run like. I definitely wanted more after riding her bike. This Sporty has so much power compared to the Savage, it's like more than twice the bike. I think Kit's 650 is pretty close to it, which being 28yo and a smaller displacement, is really saying something considering how much technology changed in that amount of time. SOHC4 Hondas totally rock!

As for the snow, we walked to the pub down the street this evening and got a bit drunk and even remembered to eat dinner while there.  ;D This should be really interesting tomorrow morning out on the streets. I will be taking the bus to work so our car doesn't get smashed by idiot drivers. :o

My all time favorite move when given an obstacle going down hill in snow in the 4 x 4 truck is to lock the brakes for an instant/ Just long enough to slip it in reverse and then you can just let out the clutch and accelerate to steer and slow yourself down.

Never failed me, but I recommend practicing it quite a bit 1st so you don't get surprised by the opposite steering issues.  ;D ;D
