This was the first iteration of front fork assy. The external springs were showing like a schoolgirl's slip. That couldn't be right. Resolution later.

This was Joe getting ready to blow a gasket putting the springs back on the rear socks. He got it done.

Here's a shot of the very expensive NOS chain guard I found on eBay.  As I told Joe and Bruce, this project has a budget of $500,000, so that's not a problem.  :) The last shot is a comparo of chainguards with their hog wart fixes.

Sand blasting? You want to kill and remove the rust but not cut the tank's matal anymore than you have to...thinning a tanks metal could be dicey as anything that makes it weaker could put gas all over you if you lay down the bike and the tank opens up when sliding.

I prefer chemical stripping and chelating rust.

If you sandblast, you might want to line the tank with Caswell epoxy.  Honda used really thin steel for these tanks, and they can be prone to developing pin-hole leaks if you sandblast.

the tanks on the ca95 and likely the CB77 are heavier than the tank metal used on the CB550/650/750 and similar bikes. but even then, I think you really should avoid anything to thin it further, even aggressive sanding a tank to remove surface rust I have decided is something I will never do again.
the rolled surface of metal forms a kind of protective layer apparently because that smoother rolled and stamped tank metal once you give it tooth by either muratic (?spelling?) acid, vinegar, or sand blasting the tank or that metal will rust aggressively. the natural humidity in a tank’s air and the heating and cooling of the day and night air causing condensation inside a tank or toolbox can cause massive levels of rusting.
so, I agree that you really should line that tank. ron, being an old motorcyclist I know you are probably aware of this and it is your plan to do so. At least the powdercoating guys you are using is doing really nice work.
i would love to turn my cA95 into moreof a CB95 but that isn’t gonna happen…the CB95 was a cool bike but very low numbers and I have only seen photos of them. my CA95 is a rough project, I think I won’t even do the build of it, despite having acquired a bunch of stuff to do the build. i just don’t have the funds and resources I once had as an engineer and being on social security with my income restricted I no longer have the engineering salary and I didn’t intend to be on social security at my age…but life rarely lets you predict how it is going to turn out…
life can be hard sometimes and brutal at other times…
life never has been an easy road for me.

I really like how this is turning out Ron, you and Joe make a good team…and it keeps Joe out of trouble…him helping see this project along is good…

i think Joe must be a good friend with a big heart as you guys have become MC building buddies…first with Phaedrus and now with the CB77.

Happy 2023 :) Its been a long time so we wanted to throw out a quick update.  Ticker is getting ready for spring and hopefully will make some noise with warmer weather.  More to come in the future.  Just throwing out there that things are still happening and movin' and shakin'

Motor in position.  Once we know it runs well it will be pulled and cosmetically cleaned up



Added turn signals where there were none before.

Again...short update...more to come

Yep... mistakes were made.  Been long enough I can't remember what it was but we figured it out.

Another quick note as there was mention of sandblasting and the integrity of the tank.  We actually had the tank and frame chemical dipped at a local striper. It was in phenomenal condition.  After full cleaning it was powder coated white with the frame and other bits

I don't remember what we had done wrong with the fork tube/ spring assembly. We must have put the springs in upside down or there was sleeves that was misplaced. But its all better now.

It's amazing how much the inside of these forks look like a CB750KO.

Yeah, this is all therapy now, as I have lost all strength and balance in my legs. I can't even get out of my chair one step without falling down. So we work on it as often as we can. That's CBJoe and Build Bubby Bruce, doing the work and I throw in a little wisdom..  Without them it would likely... not get finished.   :(  But I have a substantial budget for this project so we'll just keep on.  It does really look nice. The white is really white.

I love that white Super Hawk Ron  8) I imagine the spirit/character Phaedrus featured in the book Zen and The Art of Motorcycle Maintenance would ride that CB77 all day long  ;)
