Ride #16  98 miles  86f   48mpg  $4.39/gal

The weather is taking a turn for the worse tomorrow, heat + storms. But this morning was primo so I made sure the chores were done yesterday and made it out at 10am. Seven mile very nice, Horses and riders enjoying the cool morning. Lake was flat just a couple boats out in the morning. I went to visit family through the traffic circles and some new traffic circles on old 23. The new traffic circles are going to require some study, one of the circles seems to guide the northbound traffic on old 23 into the southbound traffic on the 23 expressway, yikes!
After the visit, I made my way to Pinckney and had a Wendy’s Dave’s single with cheese and a Diet Coke from the hundred flavor blending machine. For the refill I had a vanilla Diet Coke, might have done a Cherry Coke as well. Instead of going further, I turned for home. The temperature was climbing and the sun was beating down so I headed back towards Seven Mile, there are many shady spots. I stopped in a favorite place on Hines Drive for the photo where it was at least 10° cooler and much quieter.
A little further on, I saw a house with a tree in the driveway. The tree crews were limbing the tree on my previous ride. It towers over the house and I noticed that there was a broken portion looks like it was aimed for the house, but I didn’t go in the backyard to see if the house was damaged. Likely there will be another crew to take the branches and trunk down. The trunk is 5 feet in diameter maybe six I’d like to put a tape measure around it and see exactly how big it is, huge is an understatement.
My CB turned 106,000 miles today, time for the mid season oil change.

#6 for me this afternoon, 57 miles. From home, up Rt110 to the MA & NH beaches before turning west and south again, then I took a lap around town before gassing up for ride #7 tomorrow.

The second hand rims and Ceat tires work pretty well, I'm running 31psi front and 33psi rear. These tires have 6,000 miles on them and 3 or 4mm of tread left, I plan on wearing them out before long.

Alright Alan, good to see you got out again. Was it any cooler at the beaches? It definitely wasn't inland, even 20 miles inland.
Friday I got #12 in, rode over to see my big brother who came up from Hartford area finally to see our Mom.
I heard my sis made blueberry pie the night before but I didn't get a piece of it as my mom made another apple pie, It was another winner.
My big sis even stopped by for a few minutes and a picture,  my brother learned to do a selfie of us all that were there.
The temperature has spiked back up into the 90s again so it was a warm ride over on the wing in the 94°F high, it was74° when I got back home at 10pm. 150 miles.

Today was even hotter than yesterday with heat index above 100°F. I left the house at 8:30 am at 84°F and made my way down the back roads to the outskirts of Boston in Southborough to buy a set of unused paintless dent tools, and it was up to 88°F when I headed west on busy Rt 9 to pickup Ma Rt 122(great road!!!) headed northwest through some beautiful western Massachusetts countryside into the Berkshire Mountains over to Shelburne Falls to buy a new in the box large Dowco Mc cover, to fit the 750s for $30. Then back 10 miles to Greenfield Ma to the Yankee Chapter AMCA Swapmeet and Show where amongst the hords of HD and old Indian parts I found a box of 750 parts that are for the 78F for $60. Not a bad day for scores but almost got heat stroke on the walk out to the track infield to see if there were any more 750 parts, so I had to go lay down under some trees for a while to cool down and drink some more water. After that I found a bathroom with a sink to wash my face, hair and upper body with cold water. Then got a bag of ice and some water to soak the Phase Change Vest packs for 20 minutes to prepare for the ride home. 230 miles today in the heat for #13, getting home at 8pm it was back down to 86°.
I think tomorrow I will stay in the shop to work on the seats in the cool.......

Edit 7/26
I forgot to mention the first purchase at the Swapmeet was a F0/F1 rear master cylinder rebuild kit for a wopping $4.

What a Day Stu! And sometimes survival is a win in itself, but you scored some great parts and logged another ride. I'm not too crazy about rides with no destination but I wanted to see how these tires work first hand. Everyone that has ridden on them hates them, so I wanted to attempt to debunk the problem. Factory tire pressures in the manual are 32psi front and 36 rear, I'm running 31F 33R.and they feel OK to me. On metal bridge ratings and tar snakes though they really do whatever they want. What ever you want to call it, tram lining or trammelling or just feeling squirreley, the bike feels planted enough but the tires want to wander where they want to wander. It feels like riding quickly through sand, just hang on, keep doing what you're doing, and let the bike do it's job. I think the experience might make me a tiny bit better of a rider.

In the center of Salisbury one of the banks still has an outdoor time/temp digital display, it was 86°F there, not sure about the temp at the beaches but I don't think it was even 90°, stopping at crosswalks didn't seem oppressive, and I didn't stop for a drink until I got home, so definitely cooler than where you were.

#7 today, 404.2 miles through 4 states.
I started by coasting my bike down the street at 5am and started it up in front of my noisiest neighbor's house, rode around the corner and up the street to grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich before heading out at 5:20. I rode 495 south to RT2 Westbound, rode through Mohawk Trail State Forrest again with its curvy River road and the North Adam's, MA hairpin turn, then caught Rt7 to Pownal, VT to the Royal Enfield dealership there to meet up with four other riders, I arrived there at 8:40am and we headed out for the RE dealership in Albany, NY a few minutes later. We arrived about 10:30 and made the rounds meeting and greeting members I'm familiar with on the RE forum. I'll guess there were at least 75 bikes lined up for a group ride, we spent about 2 hours on back roads west of Albany, crowded the parking lot and pumps for a fuel stop, then a second stop a bit later at a scenic lookout where we took group photos and socialized for a while. After all of that the group continued on, some stayed behind and said our goodbyes before heading our separate ways. I rode back with a forum member who lives about 30 miles from me. We took back roads through Albany to Bennington, VT where we picked up Rt7 and 9 west to Brattleboro where we split up. I continued on 9 west into New Hampshire then kept west on I dunno 111 and 101, 101a, 28, and 97 back home for 6:35pm. The bike and those clapped out Ceat tires worked very well, but the tires do wander in cracks, grooves, gratings and tar snakes just like everyone says they do.

Sounds like a fantastic day out on the bike Alan.  Great tires can make a world of difference to how a bike rides, and the same is true for $hit tires...

Wow Alan, that's some tall miles and a long day! But it sounds like it was a very satisfying day on the bike. Was it mostly/all R.E's. or a mix? How are you feeling today?.

Finally a ride!
170km
I started 11:30 am, before temp reach 25-27*C.  Sunny and 23*C is fine with leathers on.
Skinnskatteberg-Fagersta-Engelsberg-Salbohed.
I saw too many dark rain clouds around Fagersta so I had to turn south again.

Time for my usual kebab plate at my favourite food stop in Salbohed.

I hear from other attendees that there were only 47 bikes on that ride, I didn't count but there were a few KLRs, some Harleys, a KTM Duke, a KZ440, a CL200 and a few others, maybe 80% were REs though.

I had to help run errands when I got back home, about 90 minutes of driving and sitting followed by fetching and carrying, followed by a few cold beers and a fine meal. I'm none the worse this morning strangely enough. It was a long enough day that my boots, gloves and helmet became uncomfortable eventually.

@Jgger thanks for asking!

#46, 7-26-2025, 74 miles
Took a ride over to Defiance, OH to grab a pocket knife from Harbor Freight, got rained on for about 10 miles but the rest of the way was clear.

#47, 7-27-2025, 104 miles. Found a power sports place up into MI open on Sunday, they listed all kinds of brands but ended up centered on HD bikes and accy...not my deal but had a quick look around anyways to be polite :-).

willbird, the altitude maps are helpful, I know NW Ohio to be mighty flat, if it wasn’t for the Maumee cutting a valley…. and US12 to be in the Irish “hills” of MI, but they’re not nearly like the Black hills of SDakota.

Alan that’s a whopping day ride, maybe the longest day ride posted here this year??
Bud had a 500 miler last year.
My days of 400 milers are likely behind me.
More recently I have done 300 milers to reach John Demarias CVMG Ganaraska 250 (km) ride,
and 350-375 a couple times cross state to the Gilmore motorcycle ride/meet.

I covered most of my county on a Bicycle and there are flat roads and then roads that are not so flat. The highest point in my county MAY be the landfill though LOL. I like getting over into IN or up into MI for more hilly experiences :-).

Rode the Varadero today to run several errands (#14) and it is HOT! 34C and I did what I never do; rode in a tee shirt and jeans. Good thing my wife wasn’t around……Actually noticed the heat comimg off the radiator for the first time ever and the fans came on whenever I stopped in traffic. Even my well insulated workshop is warming up….. some good news, the grass is turning brown and not growing at all!

Sometimes if I hop off to take a quick pic I will just leave the bike run, hearing the CB500X  fan come on one day this spring when I did that was a new experience LOL.

I've been writing back-and-forth to work. But I haven't really got 50 miles in one trip. It's about twenty five miles to work. But i'm not counting that, because there's a 8 to 16 hour day in between the halves of the ride. This week they sent me about 3 hours north for a week of high voltage training at the aep training switchyard. Right outside of columbus ohio. I was gonna ride the bike up with the woman. Kinda glad I did, and there was an epic downpour on the way up, and this columbus traffic sucks.
