Napoleon bar end mirrors
« on: February 15, 2008, 07:12:14 PM »
Apart from the price is there any reason I should buy the cheaper ones? Look the same to me -does anyone have the cheaper ones? Do they work just as well?

Originals:

it;s the mounts on the cheap ones that are so awful, theyre impossible to get tight inside the bar. i lost many mirrors before buying the good ones.

They are crap!  Get ready to either loose it on the road, or when you try and remove one,  the inners F76ck up!

I picked up 2 sets of these last year. Used one on my K8 and they were extemely nice. Very adjustable and well made. I have to remove mine to get the bike in the shop and they come on and off without issue. $54.00 in silver or chrome.

I have a set of "still in box" silver  ones if some one wants them for $40.00. I want to get the chrome ones for the Tracy ;D

I have the Napoleons on my Ducati and love them. BUT, at $40 for one, I think I'd rather get the ones that Seaweb posted. (Round kind of goes better with the lines of our bikes then the rectangles do anyway...)

Andy,
Are you unhappy with the little round bar ends, like the ones in Seaweb's photo we both purchased last season? How come?

I hate those cheap EMGO brand mirrors.  Their finish does not last, they are floppy, and they just feel cheap.  I paid the $$ for Napoleons, and am happy with my purchase.  IF you keep your eyes pealed you can find cheap used ones on evilBay.  I buy them damaged and fix them or keep them for parts.  Using this method I bought my last pair for about $10 + shipping.

Go for the good stuff, unless you are a cheap a$$, then do what ever you want.

I run Napoleons on my Ducati S4 and my Cafe RAcer and my scoot bike.

They are well built from good material, well coated /plated and most of all they provide a very stable view.    I also like the way they can be flicked out of the way in tight spots  and they come back to exactly the same position.

Good rear view is worth whatever it costs to get it  in my opinion.

On the other habd - they are lousy on Buells like my mates.  It is impossible to overcome the vibey throb of those machines and his rear view realy sux.  (Dangerously so, I think)

You could also try these THIRD EYE BAR END MIRROR :

They are light weight and compact just not very sturdy, if you drop the bike, it's a goner, but you can get them for about ten Bucks so no biggie .   Intended for mountain bikes but work in 7/8" bars.

Only thing I don't like about the Napoleans is how far they stick out when lane splitting. They bend out of the way and don't do any damage if you do happen to "tap" a few car mirrors, but the drivers can get pretty miffed anyway :P
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

is that what they tell you as you careen by them tapping parts of your vehicle on parts of theirs... most places they call those accidents or crashes, fender benders, etc.  :P

Only if you're in the insurance racket or like to file false claims since it doesn't even leave a mark, no broken or scratched plastic, nothing. Splattered bugs cause more damage and should be made to carry insurance ;D

I'm using the $14.99  units purchased from Z1 Enterprizes.... No problems. They are great....

Then of course there are alot of Ebay sellers who have a source for items who mark them up dramatically and they catch the guy who doesn't shop around. Z1 Enterprizes get all my business over ebay if they have what I need.  More Kawasaki Z1 stuff than CB stuff...

I already have bar end mirrors (like the 3rd eye ones in the photo) but find they stick out too much and add that extra width to the bikes profile. Ive just fitted shorty indicator lights and trying to get a sleeker profile so thats what I was thinking of Napoleons.
