May the Gods of Speed shine on you.

Both Mercury and Hermes were with us on Sunday, shame I couldn't find the God of Traction. ;D ;D ;D

We had showers threatning all day but the couple we did get weren't enough to wet the track.
I started off with a couple of steady passes to settle the new piston in and to get a feel for the very rough and bumpy track surface.
After that I tried a few hard on the gas passes. the bike launched well but I had a missfire at around 10,000 rpm.
The mixture looked very rich going from the reading at the end of the exhaust. I dropped a few jet sizes but the missfire continued.
I was begining to get worried as the ignition system had been messed about with when it was with the nitrous guys.
The only thing I could do was swap the spark plug, and then "Ureka" (was she the Godess of spark plugs ;D ;D)
I made three passes with the little bike singing its head off, launching real hard but spinning all the way down the track over the bumps.
I'm not sure of my times but they will be posted after they are emailed to me, I think my fastest was a 9.09s pass, not bad with no traction. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for posting the pictures Benny. 8)

Sam.  ;)

Thanks HT, I think with suspension and a well prepped track, I could get my 60ft time down to about 1.5 seconds and low 8s over the 1/8th.
It did launch hard on the grippie start line, but it was the bumps down the track that caused a lot of the wheel spin and lost me valuable time.

Congrats, Sam.

Thanks Will but it was only a final shake down, the real test is next weekend.
The biggest problem is, will the event take place.
The organising club need 50 competitors to make the event viable, as at last Friday night, they only had 25 with this Wednesday being the dead line.
If they fall a few short, I might have to subsidise the event out of my own pocket as this will be my last Chance this year, it's fingers crossed time. :-\

Some Say...
Things you may not know about Sam Green Racing's tame Racing Rider.

When he exhales, argon comes out...
No one knows wat the L.E.D's on his neck mean...
Both his hearts have variable valve timing...
He can only digest meat and rocks??...
His gloves arent actually gloves, his hands actually look like this...
One of his knees seems to attract cats...
When he walks his feet make a sort of Wah-Wah guitar noise...
He has a swivelling head...
When he blinks, you can hear the noise a camera shutter makes...
You need to squirt his right-hand side arm pit with WD40 every six months or 5000 miles (whichever comes sooner)...
His right elbow bends the wrong way...
His buttoks are the same spec as the tiles on a space shuttle...
One of his legs is hydraulic...
He has a group of freckles that are shaped like sir Jackie Stewart...
And lastly his Honda RS 125 is actually an RS 175...

Derek, It was one of our team that lived in the house in the picture, she moved home to be nearer to her family as she was getting on a bit (78).
If she was to see the state of her old garden she would have a heart attack. :o
Some of the people in the road don't give a toss about their gardens, I don't mind too much as their gardens make mine look even better than it is. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just under 1 hour to go and I will be off home to get things sorted.
Not a great lot to do, biggest job is to change the gearing from 1/8 to kilo.
Will load Saturday morning and be traveling south Saturday noon, about 5 hours drive.
The biggest problem, the met office have give heavy rain all weekend, pray for me guys. :-\

Just got back now. Im not one to give up, but this thing is annoying me now.

The race director wanted us to do a run just to check the bike was o.k, then he made us sit on the line for too long (getting hot) so fourth gear along the track (i think sam said) 10,000 rpm and it started spluttering. we got back in changed the plug and then it didnt fire up, wether the coil the lead or something. its all going to be checked!

Whatever you do Sam, im with you ;)

Benly-Ben :'( ;) :( :'(

Sam will tell you the rest.

What dose "give up" mean Mick ? :-\ :-\ :-\ I sure did feel like it at 8.30 am yesterday.
Having not changed anything on the bike since last weekend (apart from the gearing) when it ran as well as it ever had, we were looking at it being just like a walk in the park.
It all started to go wrong at 8.30am when we arrived at the air field to find that the quarter mile coarse had been set up at the end of the runway instead of in the middle. >:( >:( >:(
I spoke to the race director and the timing crew only to find that the event organiser who was in the USA organising his own record attempt at Bonneville later in the year had forgot to tell them of my attempt at this venue.
I was asked not to be to down hearted and hang on while they had a word with people.
After the riders briefing and roll call, they told all competitors of the problem and asked for volunteers to stay behind at the end of the meeting to move all the equipment over a kilometer down the coarse, this would take about an hour and about 30 people.
There was a unanimous show of hand and I felt privileged.
The only stipulation was that I made a sighting pass the full length of the runway to make sure the bike was in fine fettle to do the attempt before they went to this trouble.
When the time came to do the run, I fired the bike and went to the end of the runway.
The starter for whatever reason, kept me waiting on the line for what seemed like an eternity.
The motor was getting extremely hot and just as I was about to kill it, got the go ahead.
I eased it off the line at a steady pace as the build up to top end speed was well over the distance I needed to get there.
After about half a mile I opened the throttle, it accelerated hard but at 10k started to miss and just got worse the further I went.
I returned to the pit and changed the plug but the bike wouldn't fire after that. >:( >:( >:(
I'm not sure what went wrong after the good showing at last weekend test.
The only good thing of the weekend was the people around me, my team, all the other riders,
the officials and my transport. The little Fiat Panda race transporter made the 500 mile round on just £43 of gas. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)
Oh well, back to the drawing board ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
