Nah this is an older tire Phil, I've asked the shop to replace the inner tube if it looks at all dodgy as it is such a #$%* to get the rear wheel off.
But when I got a new front, they over inflated by 8psi and the bike felt real wierd till I gauged and let some air out.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Dear diary: Yikkes $49 to fix a flat! I guess that will teach me to be lazy and not just buy an inner tube and fit it myself. ;D
Screen arrived and after following very basic instructions and quoffing 2 can of beer I had a go at installing it, fits well enough but being as cautious as I am I am going to manufacture two wee brackets and run them from the bottm screen bolts to the headlight bracket ears.
I just get the feeling that at any speed this screen will lift and fly back spearing me through the heart. :D
Now we await the tank, this bike is gonna look so damn awesome when it all gets back together ha ha.........good job the Custom doesn't need this sort of care and attention to detail.

Picture makes Custom look much better than it is mate, tank has bangs and scratches and the occasional dent for good measure, however after spending a week cleaning it out I guarantee it has only petrol in it now. ;D
Bike is a nice colour blue and would have been a pretty girl when she was new, previous owners have not been kind to her and as I only really want her as a daily reliable rider I have no intention of restoring her unless I run out of things to do on the PZ or the soon to arrive GSX400L.
Great little bike the Custom though, and last of the SOHC 650's Honda made I believe so couldn't let her rot out on that farm any longer. :D

Dear diary: progress at last...yippeee my tank is home again and I won an auction on Trade-me for the correct pole light.
I cannot believe the paint job and decals they did for me, $536 all up and well worth it too. ;D ;D
Have new stickers for bike on Sunday through another enthusiast and the promise of the original red crashbar lights in January if I can't source them any earlier wooohoooo!!!!! ;D

Excellent Rick ... all coming together and really looking nice. Patience is very important in this game. A big waiting game I have found it to be in sourcing parts and buying time, and then one day, it is all go.
You should be a starter for the VJMC 20th anniversay rally to be held in Stratford, March 14, 15, 16 2009. It is only 20 mins from where I live. Keep up the good work. Cheers ... Phil in NZ

You could be like their police escort, flashing lights and all. I believe their rally run will take them from Stratford to Whangamomona Hotel and return. Cheers ... Phil

Actually there are a heap of Kiwis restoring these old MOT bikes, I've been in contact with quite a few since I put that "wanted to buy" on Trade-me for the crashbar lights.
I beat one of them to the pole light the other day ha ha.
Mainly FJ750 Yamaha's and with all the goodies on too, am thinking about forming some sort of loose organisation for us all. ;D

Cheers for that Phil, its a new one to me.
My bro-in law bought that other CB650PZ and the Custom so I might be able to steal some parts off him. ;D

Dear diary: well the teardrop rear light arrived but wouldn't ya know it, the attachment bit is missing so I'm gonna have to manufacture something.
Won two crashbar lights on Trade-me, unfortunately they don't quite look the same, something to do with the chrome surround.
Ah well I can always trade one of them to get a set.
Jaffa's GSX400L turned up on Saturday, nice little bike and 99% there so won't take me long to get it sorted, strangely enough I now find I have 3 1982 bikes in my shed (by pure coincidence).
The Police bike is a 79 but first registered in NZ in 82, the Custom is 82 and now Jaffa's 400 is 82 as well!
The coincidences don't stop there, all bikes have no kicker and the oil filters are all front mount.
Makes fixing things easier I guess as I have faced most of the same problems on all these bikes.

Dear diary: progress today, both crashbar lights arrived by courier this week and finally got a chance to look at them.
Lights are a cream colour (Japanese white) and didn't match the rest of the bike so we (me and she) took them apart and resprayed them to match.
Pole light arrived with the under attachment missing so we got clever with rearranging the bottom section and that I am very pleased with.
Bought a metal cash box from hardware store, right size for the ticket box, Jaffa rubbed it back and bogged the handle hole, once painted it should look like the real thing.
Found some brackets at the plumbing store and have figured out how to attach the crash bar lights.
Will reconstruct the parts tomorrow and take some new photos for project diary.
Also got GSX400L running, sounds quiet and no knocks, need a new battery and fork seals before it's rideable but bike looks real good.
Fired up Custom but bike still has cold start issues to be sorted.
Ah three bikes and time to fiddle with them...my idea of heaven. ;D

30 degrees Celsius, not sure what that is Fahrenheit any more but take it from me cold beer almost drinks its self! ;D
More painting today, rushed some yesterday and had to go back and redo, have removed the front guard again too as bro-in law reccommended I do a few coats of clears on it, must be that amazing paint job on the tank making the rest of bike look shabby. :D
Haha we renamed you, not sure what Kitsune refers to but Kits suits you better. ;D

"Kitsune" is a Japanese trickster fox spirit that usually appears as a pretty young woman and usually teaches deserving people lessons.  Kinda like the coyote of native American mythology.

OK this is the bike so far, I'm still working on a few things but it looks pretty good I think.
As this is a "project" bike I don't mind taking my time and getting stuff right, I've got the Custom running sweet as so that's my daily ride.
