As mentioned by MEC, I would like to hear about the resolution of the oil leakage issues. Hopefully they are non-issues as many such things are. But boring of the aluminum block to the point there is none left between 1-2 and 3-4 is both cool and troubling.

Anyone?

PS: My first 888cc was completely oil tight with HD cylinder studs, for many miles 50K+. So I would like that as well in a 1000cc.

In defence of RC,I have his 1000 resleeved cylinder and head on my unit and it has never leaked a drop. Rock On

The Cobra spec engine has about 10000 miles on it .the mileage is mostly street but also includes about 200 miles of road racing at Mosport here in Ontario.The bike is presently parked as it started to have a bearing rattle on cold startup for only a milisecond,and I am hopefull only bearings will be required.My biggest fear is getting a new alum head gasket that goes with the copper o-ringed cyl.On top of this,I am having too much fun on my 1100F to lose much sleep,lol. 10K is enough to prove the point. Are you familiar with Cometic? (probably) they advertise they will make any gasket and aluminum in multi thicknesses is one of their materials.

Sounds like a nice group of machines. I love the CB1100F. Rocking on!

I don't think Cometic offer aluminum head gaskets. Use a copper one....they will make that up.

Yes....I see that. That is new. Personally I'd go with a MLS gasket....they are all that is used on modern bikes and some of them are 12.5 to 1 stock

I am getting the feeling that sometimes people mention RC parts that may or may not be from them... it is a name many remember.

I should mention this though.. assembly is crucial, if sleeves are installed and not decked properly or fit with correct interference, they are more likely to leak.

So boring and fitting sleeves/pistons is important.

I am not sure that the 1000cc sleeves will show thru the block, but 1080 will.... and I dont think that boring cases for 1000cc sleeves will break thru between the bores..

The idea behind the aluminum gaskets was to have the same expansion for the gasket as the head & barrel.

Now we got to wonder.. to O-ring or not to 0 ring, pretty sure it is a must with a turbo or blower..

The RC sleeves do meet the atmosphere.They are then epoxied.Mine have never leaked or overheated cept in gridlock which is avoided like the Plague.My cases were bored for the 1000 sleeves and yes there is still material between the bores.And on an unrelated note 754,my bud Cummings has a new album of new material coming out on Tuesday complete with a 1 hour dvd of the making of. Well 754,as reported earlier,the bike has been parked awhile,however,it never used oil,unlike the 1100F which runs great but uses a litre in less than 500 miles,yet no smoking that any followers have noted.The Cobra miles were all in Ontario summers in temps tween 70 and 90ish.In heavy traffic,on occasion I have stalled engine.Lectric starter would not turn it over but 1 kick would get it going. Hi Terry.Yes,I have a Lockhart cooler,the one with the female pipe fittings on top,piped to the return line with -8 aeroquip hoses..Also ,I use a 400F filter housing which yields 4.5 oz. capacity increase and Valvoline 20/50 racing oil is in it's veins.A CR relief spring is in the pump.Some trips of 3-500 miles/day have been done as well as the aforementioned road racing on a very hi speed circuit.The engine didn't leak nor burn oil and was totally reliable in my book.The only downside was some pinging on low rpm acceleration on street fuel which was cured at the track with 130 avgas.Back when I built this unit,all my dealings were with Terry Vance by phone;he was as pro at work as he was fast at strip! paulages spoke with a guy that one and he said it was about 90HP if I remember correctly.

Terry,I have no idea re hp,RC claimed 100.I will say this;it was f'n fast and surprised many better machines ,including a couple of TZ750's on the track.Mosport has a very long uphill straight on which nothing passed me in the" run what you brung" class. I have a genuine CR gearbox in this unit that really helped on the race track. Rock On

Funny how claimed higher HP, does not always win at the track

I suspect City Boys bike had higher torque than some 4 valvers and that can make a difference..

At the end of the day, the track or strip povides the answers..

Q, ..is it really that wrong to say, "If I had an afternoon on the dyno, I'm sure I could 85 HP out of it", when you know full well you had 98...

..

there is bench racing and then there are track results..
