Tryed to find a shop to bore out my cylinders for a few hours today with no luck. they all either do Harleys and don't have equipment small enough for my cylinders or cars. I'm not quite sure how to go about finding one? I would prefer to not ship it anywhere as money is tight. I'm not sure what to look up? machine shops?

Sprayed it with lots of WD40 as it won't be on the road for quite a while.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I don't know the exact $ for $ comparison, but I'll bet you'll find its cheaper in the long run to ship to a CB750 specialist like APE or MRieck, or DYnoMan or CycleX than to dick around with someone who may not know or appreciate what's going on.

I couldn't resist the warm weather even if the roads were a little wet. I also learned how effective the front fender is. You really can't appreciate one till it isn't there.

I used that guy. Good work, 3 week turn around. Ship it to him flat rate large for 17$, he will quote you 35$ return for much better packaging that ensures you get it in good shape. I just crammed it in a box lol

Oh yeah I've been beating on it in this lovely 20 degree weather NY has been having. EBay 836, head I reworked and some of the clutch mods like drilling the basket.

I didn't baby the motor but didn't go over 6500 until it stopped smoking and I had changed the oil. Stopped smoking after 15/20 miles, changed oil at 70. Pulls like a freight train

Drilling the basket? What does that do? Better lubing?

Well, I pulled the top end of the 836 apart again today.
It's been a work in progress for a few months (or more) now.

Anyway, the plan was and is to have some bike time over the Xmas break.
I was thinking to myself, you bloody beauty, some free time away from the riff raff.  ;D

So anyway, I woke up suddenly at about a quarter past three this morning and started thinking "Did you check those oil galleries in the crank case"
FCUK, did I or didn't I???
After convincing myself that I had checked 'em, I still wasn't convinced.

This morning I went and did some Xmas shopping and then went down to the shed because something was biting me on the arse about this.
Off with the rocker box, out with the cam, off with the cam towers and then got the air gun and blew some air into the oil galleries in the head.

Far out Coral Trout, she's pressurising.  ;D
Bugger.

So I unbolted the head and took the barrels off and then removed the 2 head studs that are located in the oil feed ports.

Then blew some air into the stud holes, and guess what, still pressurising.
You bastard.  ;D

What I did was to get a 2.5mm dill bit and work it back and forth until the holes were nice and clear.

So the bottom line is, this process is a crucial part of a rebuild that will avoid the top end getting totalled on initial fire up.
If not initially, it won't be too far afterwards.

Merry Xmas All.  ;D

If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

Rather embarrassingly I have failed to make a single once of progress... I have looked at it a few times but just not managed to spend anytime on it in-between training (for cycle racing), so I might get some time in the garage tomorrow and see what I can do....

Also decided that my V-Strom needs some TLC so will begin a strip down of that thing as well in the next few days...

Sure, didn't mean to imply don't use local. Only don't be afraid to ship either. Often quicker and easier than schlepping around the city, at least around here.

I have the next two weeks off so I dropped my head off at my buddies so he could do the valves and the cylinder so he could bore it for the new pistons. Mean while Started to assembly the bottom end and I can honestly say Hondaman's book bailed me out of a screw up at least once. Hopefully by the new year I can post a picture of my motor that's was sitting for 31 years.

Well, I drilled out some new handlebars to internally route the wiring. . . all went pretty well except for the clutch side controls :-\

I got the hole for the pins lined up correctly but I accidentally cut the hole to route the wiring to the LEFT of the hole >:(  I didn't know what to do except then cut a new one on the right.  I am hoping that the handlebars are still structurally sound since the have about a 1x2.5cm hole drilled on each side of the pin hole.  I put the controls back on and everything fits except I THEN cut the wiring feed-hole a little to long and you can see it if you look under the controls :-[

I'll post pics of my stupidity later perhaps, guess I will look for new bars in the near future but I am going to try them  :'(

+ 1 on that only mine was with cars at work. I can't imagine how many nights I tossed & turned sweating stuff like that.I kinda have a rule that if I'm trippin' on anything I write it down and then when I get to work I address the list first. That was a real good catch there Mick. I always say "when in doubt.....check it out"
