Another steenking hot day today, 43 deg C (109.4 deg F) so I got out of bed early and removed the lower bearing race from my GL1000 triple (Gota love those ultra-thin cutting discs for my 4 inch angle grinder) and painted them both with epoxy gloss black, then retreated back inside under the swamp cooler. Hot weather sucks............ ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah over my way Terry we had 44.5 deg C during the day. At 10pm it was 37 deg C and 6am was still 33 deg C. Bloody hot.

If I get enough time I might put the engine in the K1.

Started to strip the paint off my F2 tank. Had tried chemical paint stripper but too slow and ineffective for the most part. I counted about 9 layers of paint and primer. Paint was layered up so thick that the solvents in the last coat seeped through to the previous coats and caused the paint to crack/craze, all the way back to the base metal. To speed things up I took to it with a heat gun and paint scraper. Will finish off with a flap wheel. BTW, there was no fuel vapour inside as it has been POR'ed since last paint job.

I've been using Bunnings paint stripper Krusty, and it rips the paint off, is that what you're using? Don't use abrasive wheels on your tank, they take metal as well as paint, het a 3M Nylon strip disc, it's designed to remove the paint, but won't leave you with a paper-thin tank. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Terry, have been using brush on Bunnings stripper. I used to be able to get spray-on stripper from Bunnings and it seemed to work better but they don't stock it anymore. Went there a day or two ago to get some more Killrust black gloss (I use a lot of it) and they were sold out. Maybe the word's got around? Ended up getting VHT gloss and satin from Supercheap but forgot to grab a can of their degreaser to try.
Just finished grinding down the front pads, from Cruizinimage, to fit the calipers for my F1. Then painted the backs ready to instal later today. Just going out to do small bits at a time coz it's getting pretty hot in the garage so far this morning. Some stuff I can do on the verandah where it's a little cooler but the missus don't like me making a mess there so I've gotta be careful what I do.
Also FWIW, repaired a broken (carbon fibre) batten from my 9.5m2 sailboard sail.

Yeah Mate, that Killrust Epoxy Enamel is brilliant, I painted my triples with the gloss black this morning and they look better than powder coat. Too hot outside now though, so I'm sitting under a cooler vent watching Foxtel and drinking beer. Life is good......... ;D

I have finally gotten a chance to really get riding again. I had to literally wait for my bike to thaw out after I forgot to cover it up when raining and the next morning it was ~12 degrees. Oops

I discovered my rebuilt 836 will gladly sing right to 9500. I didn't mean to do it but got lazy about shifting and didn't get up to fourth. Only about 600 miles on it so I haven't really wrung it out too too much, rpm wise

A cool sea breeze blew in this arvo so I went back out to the garage. This time to replace the brake pads on the F1. The old (new) ones were contaminated by brake fluid from the leaking caliper, now fixed. I mentioned previously that the new pads from Cruizinimage were a touch to big (diam) so I ground them down to fit and repainted them earlier today. Refitted the calipers only to find they locked up on the discs, WT. Pulled 'em back out and measured them, the friction material was about a mm thicker than the old (new) ones. A few minutes sanding them on a flat surface with a course grit soon fixed that. They are now back on the bike and the front wheel rotates again. Re bled the brakes just for the heck of it and found a few tiny bubbles make their way out. Will take it out for a test run in a few days 'cos tomorrow I promised to help a mate get his 1960 C72 Dream up and running after a rebuild. (a PO locked it up after forgetting to put oil back in it after and oil change and service).

Today I tried my hand at setting idle mixture screws on my 78 550k. Idle is much smoother but still a pita to get it to start from cold. Still more to be done. Maybe tomorrow...

Depends, but unless it is really out there in the sun it is pretty long lasting in my experience. Either way it is good stuff for like 5$

My airbox got the peanut oil treatment.  Not as vibrant as the Back to Black.
Both of these will sit for a few months while everything goes back together.  Time will be the judge.

Yea I've read through the peanut oil and wintergreen thread we have around here. Back to black looks a bit more permanent, not to mention its sooooo darn black! Just love it.
