Could finally twist the throttle with response. Ignition with both coils OK.
Nice sound when twisting at 6000rpm!
Speedo wire broke. Maybe too powerful acceleration or just 30 years old?

Touched 7000+ rpm on 5:th gear, 17-48 sprockets. speed??? nobody knows....

Back to where the bike was stored since 1990, taken out 2009. Still not mounted the new tank kit. When everything is adjusted and verified.

They need to be adjusted today, the bike is a little bit hard in the rear. Maybe better to use the tool I have when they are set rather high, upper setting of the spring.
I have not checked the air, never did back then or 2014 :-) 3 bar written on the stickers that need to be replaced when they tasted my Kärcher high pressure washer

Good upgrade when I bought them 1984, mostly used on long tourings with mostly 2 younger and lighter persons on the bike.

I'll repair them later on. I have to find new stickers, available on eBay except for the upper sticker with 3bar, only 4bar versions found. Look exactly the same otherwise.

I installed a pr. of Marzzochi 'Strada' rear shocks on my RD350 back in 1987 and rode them around for a few months before taking a long ride coast to coast fully loaded on that little bike

and I needed to rebuild them after only about 1500 initial miles before I really loaded the cycle down for my trip.I sorted out the exact right spring(back then I was lighter

)first and they were great.I rebuilt them using the user instructions and sourced some 5 wt. oil from a hydraulic shop w/ fresh Marzzochi factory seals and they gave me Excellent performance for Many more miles. They're a Nice light weight High Performance pair of rear shocks..,the best I ever rode on before or since !

I used my Ag Stradas during 4 holiday trips, appr 6000km's each time. 2persons, saddle bags, rear rack with tent sleeping bags, kitchen ..... :-)
I felt the frame flexing in 210km/h according to the speedometer driving downhills in Austria/Italy with bike in about 45 degree angle... I started to think about all bolts during previous complete bike tear down.. did I tighten them all?

No rebuild yet, but they look to need the kit I have. I released the spring pressure today. They were at 2:nd highest setting, turned one step down.

Switched ignition coils today. Now I believe the other guys writing about Dyna green 3 ohm coils. Yes, battery drains rather quick...Especially when the alternator is lightened, less charging capacity.

I put black coils in, 5 ohms.
With these black I measured 13,7V on idle with headlight off, had to rev >3000 to reach 13V with headlight on, maybe 13.5 over 4000 rpms. 14,7V with headlight off.

I have to measure again and make exact notes before my memory cells forgets. Huge difference with headlight or not. H4 55/60W. My headlight has a parking light. I can drive with that to charge battery.
Have not driven the bike with these coils yet. Only some revving, sounds good!

I don't think a lightened rotor affects the charging capacity. Never did on mine. Never heard complaints from others.

The metal that is removed is just dead weight. The magnet is not affected. It's the cutouts in the rotor that contribute to charging and they are not removed.

Today I got rid of my tach and cluster and made a new bracket for my speedo that tucks it in more for a cleaner look. Also got a bike mount for my cycling bike and decided to give it a try on the CB, looks kinda cool but isn't very practical.

I suggest you look elsewhere for a problem.

I just guessed that the charging capacity should decrease a little, but still be OK. That was I heard back in the days
There is no problem right now.
I need to verify max voltage to ensure max lifetime of the Dyna S electronics.

The charging system has been in a barn for 20 years with temperature differences during the seasons. It might need to be refreshed, at least cleaning all cable connectors and regulator contact points. I was surprised that everything worked. I was sure it should have been corroded completely, relays, regulator, starting circuits....
I replaced the switches on handle bars though and installed relays for all Amp eaters...4 relays now... Soon time for a voltage gauge so I'll know before frying the Dyna S :-)

Condensation and corrosion can do funny things. Mine sat in a semi heated garage for 2 winters and the front brake pucks are rusted into the calipers. My friend had his sit in a storage shed outside for 30 years and the brakes work fine.

PS: didn't mean to sound harsh about the charging comments.

I did not see it that way. We are a bunch of passionated CBXXX guys here!

I measured the battery voltage today again. This time with paper and pen. It's suddenly very important with not too high voltage due to the electronic ignition, or too low draining the battery. Back in the days with points I did not care other than too low voltage. If the headlight bulb started to blow due to over voltage I might have done something

I did not get any measurements over 14V as last time. Revved up to 5000 rpms. Coils 5 ohm.
Ignition system and coils get 12V direct from the battery via a relay. Thicker cabling 1,5mm2 (~AWG 15) as for the other amp eaters fed via relays.
Measurements done with a cheap car multimeter. The relative values most interesting.
Now with fully charged battery. Idle look high due to the cam WebCam CX-7 from CycleX
Engine speed Headlight off Headlight on
Idle (1400-1500rpm) 12,55V 12,4V
2000 rpm 12,9V 12,7V
3000 rpm 13,5V 12,8V
4000 rpm 14,0V 13,01V
5000 rpm - " - - " -

This show me that I do not have to worry for my new Dyna system or be stranded somewhere with empty battery as I could have been with 3ohm coils.

A voltage gauge is also an useful gadget, read absolute V or indicating lamp in different colors as I have found on this forum.
The colored lamp must be best for me. No problem to read when driving. As long as it is just green solid or flashing.

new rear Dunlop 501 to replace the one I had fitted eight months ago,mightve run 7000 kays on it?i always replace tyres just short of those wear indicator lugs.

deglazed/cleaned the rear shoes/hub and lubed the action aswell,those are genuine ones about four years old,they last well.

ha!yeah sport demons run the same mileage terry,just ask Christo!ive run everything on this bike,its demons and 501s for handling,bt45s are the default tyre thatll do,they all last the same with me at least?i run 36 psi.the Dunlop rear was 120 the demons are 150,im running the Dunlop front aswell,the rear is made in japan,the front is made in france?

Yeah mate, I put BT45's on everything until you convinced me to try the Pirelli's and they're great, but I've got Dunlops on the FJ1200 and they stick very well too.

im fortunate enough to live in the hinterland right in the twisties,i have no need for a dual compound rear tyre,ive used two sets of bt45s and theres nothing wrong with them,i didn't like the way the front scallops out though and would squeal alarmingly on tight corners,it never let go though,i find the demons and 501s just that handling edge better,the front Dunlop looks to be wearing more evenly than the demon so far let alone the bt45,id like to try a demon rear and Dunlop 501 front next time?they call them street smart now?they were arrowmax,i always used cheap knobbies on dirt bikes though,i couldn't pick any difference between metzler Dunlop or irc,they all wore out the same!so i just ran cheapies.

Yep, I'd never noticed my tyres squealing when I had BT45's, but it might have had something to do with the road surface? The tyres on my Subaru (Goodyears, from memory) squeal when I go around the roundabout in my street, but nowhere else? Tyre pressures are good, so I can't work it out?

I hated Metzler road tyres when I had my first BMW R100RS back in the 1990's, they tracked all over the place and weren't grippy at all, then I bought my first CB750F2 that was fitted with a half worn Dunlop Arrowmax on the front and a new Cheng Shin on the back, and it was fantastic on wet or dry roads, and I wondered then if maybe all the hype about "quality" tyres was just Bullshiit? I'm still not sure..........

yeah im happy with the sport demons, but i havnt had anything else to compare it against personally. Just changed the rear recently and it was consistent as to what dave said. the front and rear went on the same time, therefore the front is still there looking good.
