Rode the build for about a half an hour today.  Been able to dial in the jetting well enough to do some seat of the pants tuning.  Definately going to be searching for some heavy duty clutch spring to handle the elevated HP.  Any sugestions?

put the '69 style tail light on the CL350... still need to figure out how to wire it so the brake light works. >:(  put on the new condenser and fuel line, shrink-tubed the leaky standpipe... only to realize that the problem with the left cylinder is still going on, so now about the only thing left to swap out is that carb.

Got home and gassed up the 650, put in a lil seafoam  and basically just fawned over it.  Topped off the tank on the harley, too.

Fixed my fuel petcock again today....after attempting to fix it yesterday.  When I reinstalled it on the newly painted tank, it decided to begin leaking for the first time every.  I thought it was the dial seal behind the shutoff lever, so I headed down the street to cycle-recycle and picked one up.  Still leaked with the new seal installed.  Turned out the problem was the fiber washers on the two screws holding the petcock on the tank from inside the sediment bowl.  I guess they shrunk to nothing from being off the bike and dried out.  Replaced them with Nylon washers and all is good now.

Got bakingsoda (sodium bicarbonate) and reading up on turning it into sodium carbonate by heating the stuff up to use it for electroliting electrolizing electrolyting derusting my fueltank. Going to wait untill sunday because weather is going to be bad tomorrow. Anode in the tank, cathode on the outside, carbattery and cook away!

Weighing the pro's and cons of lacquering my rattlecanned frame with polyurethane to give it a little more bumpresistance or start all the way over and save up for powdercoat..

Nice weather hit and I got antsy to ride so got impatient on top of beeing on a tight budget. Rattlecan job turned out pretty nice though?

Anyway. First post. And hey, you asked? :) '74 cb550. complete rat when I got it but it has new tires! yay! previous owner spent 600 dollars on the carbs with about half an inch gap under the tappets and gave it to me because he couldnt get it to run right..

i considered burning it for the second time in a week, then i found a decent used seat for 85 dollars shipped. wonder what the new license tag will cost.

correction.... i got more drunk and then went out and lifted her up and pulled the front wheel. too drunk to get the forks loose...

as a disclaimer, i wouldnt recommend doing any of the above while intoxicated. probably shouldn't be working on stuff whilst you are tripping and falling into the wall... ill finish in the morning.

You need a dab of lube behind pads. as well I read on tips and tricks that a tiny amount of anti- seize on the steel shoe edge will help without danger, A TINY AMOUNT!!

This is exactly how that would go, LFD:

"yeah it'd be WAY more intense if you could find the frigging whatever you just set down two seconds ag.... what am I doing? Oh yes, pulling the front wheel.  No, I need to lift the bike up first.... Why haven't I done that already? Oh right, I need the jack under it and... where's the frigging jack?  Oh there it is.  I was going to jack the bike up.
hehehhehehehe
I just said 'jack'.
heh heh heh heh hahahahahahahahhaha*snort*
RIGHT! I set down and lost the little pedal thing that jacks up the jack.
...oh.
Where Is That Thing?!?!?!
Screw it, where are the cheetos?"

and that is why the garage should be a pot free zone.

My bike project is getting pretty depressing. It's my first SOHC4, a CB750. Titled and framed as a 1972, but engine numbers are 1973. Has a single fuse wiring harness, but 1973 paint and handle bar controls. I think someone really bastardized this thing and I'm just finding that out now.

It seems that I've got half of a K2 and half of a K3. The more I look at the heap of junk on my bike stand, the more I just want to give up and part it out :(

in case I forgot, it's a 78' CB750F

Just seems like it needs SO much work!

I bought it for $400 and it had been sitting 15 years. Looked complete for the most part, and it's in decent shape. But it seems like someone REALLY did some stupid stuff to it. I think once I hear it run, then I'll be much more motivated to keep working on it. I only want a rider anyways, not a restoration or show queen...

Been there! Sometimes if you look at the whole picture it can be overwhelming. Try concentrating on one portion of the project at a time.
Maybe get the thing running, then move on to the next item?

Good Luck.

That's the plan...Checking compression really bummed me out. Got 90 in three holes and 60 in one of them. But the one with 60 I'm not sure I had the tester in far enough, was a real #$%* to get in there. I think I'll just try to replace the fuel lines, adjust valves, and start it to see what happens heh.
