Topic: CB750 Cafe/Endurance Project

Hi,
First post on my new Honda project.
In fact, first Honda project ever, for me

Started out with a standard 750K7 and my intention is to build part café, part endurance racer – a kind of CB750 equivalent to Eddie Lawson’s Kawasaki. So far I’ve refreshed the motor with new camchain/primary chains/tensioners, ring and valve job, seals, gaskets etc.
So with that all done and a coat of paint here is the refirbished motor:



So far, I’ve collected the following bits:
New Kiehin 29mm CRs (Dynoman)
Single GRP seat (Yamaha SRX, Ebay, Germany)
Arrow Race can (Ebay)
Marving 4 into 1 pipe (Ebay)









I sold the original tank but a spare came with the bike and I’m going to use the that with welded down flap and alloy monza filler. Wheels will be rebuilt with Morad (Akront) alloy rims.
I’ve given a lot of thought to the front end but for the time being I’m gonna leave it standard. GL1000 would be the obvious choise but these are not freely available here in the UK.

Now the motor is done next step is to clean-up the frame, remove all the unwanted brackets and get some rearset mountings on. Oh, and modify the frame to accept the SRX seat.

Yeah, I realise that seat isn't gonna be a straighforward fit. But seeing as the SRX project wasn't gonna happen, it was just beggin to be used on the 750!

Obviously I'm not going to be able to use the hinges and locking arrangement from the original. Prob use sime kind of quick-release fasteners, like a 'Zues' turn-lock type.

Should sound awesome with that Arrow pipe

On to the frame – I've chemically stripped this. Never again, I’ll get it blasted next time! Frame had one or two rust holes in the lower/front down tubes, but I’ve now MIG welded these and all looks good.
I’m going to keep the standard tank, but weld in the fuel flap to become an integral part. An alloy Monza cap will sit central. The SRX seat, it has to be said, is not a great fit. But I love it and I'll make it fit, if it’s the last thing I do! Some brackets on the top tubes and a ‘hoop’ toward the rear should see it fixed . Neither will the seat be easy to hinge, so some sort of turnlock fastener will have to be used. But on a ‘race’ influenced bike, what the hell.




I'll keep you posted on the seat fitting.

Well, didn't get as much done this week as I'd hoped. But I did get the seat mounts sorted and the frame primed ready for colour coat.









The tabs on the rear are for indicator mountings.

Other stuff has meant progress has been very slow, but have laced up the new alloy rims and made the decision to go for the ‘urban scrambler’ look! Tyres are Bridgestone dual-purpose, but I won’t be taking this baby off the tarmac – strictly street.

Looking great. I had the same idea. I was thinking of getting 2" over shocks and fork tubes to increase clearance but the stance you gave looks killer.

The tyres are Bridgestone TW24 on Morad (Akront) alloy rims with stainless spokes. I've fitted 18"x4" front and rear.
I'd say the best way to prep the motor for paint is to steam clean or vapour blast. But I'm a bit of a skinflint, so it was petrol, blunt screwdriver and toothbrush for the initial cleaning, followed by hot water and detergent. Works well.

Definitely going to keep my eye on this build.   That tank turned out fantastic -  and that seat looks like it could have come that way from the factory.

Yes, I was never keen on that fuel flap - it had to go! But I love the shape of the K7 tank, so to weld in a 'patch' was the way to go.
Must admit, this project has been sitting still for a while, but i'm picking up speed on it now. I'll keep ya posted.

That tank looks GREAT man!
I have the same tank and was thinking of doing this, where did you get you Monza fuel cap?
Did you weld or braze? Did you use the lid cover that came on the tank stock or did you fab a piece to fit in the tank?

I don't know where beveldrive got his, but I searched for months here in the States and finally found a pdf catalog page for a place in Florida. I ordered a flanged Monza cap from them and it's very cool.

Do a Google search for: ASTON & MONZA FILLER CAPS and it should be the first result.
