I know the Triumph bobber guys do this but I believe they use a "kit" of unique components instead of adapting the existing system.

You will not be able to eliminate the battery with the stock alternator. The stock alternator uses an electro-magnet that requires 12 volts to generate the magnetic field that makes the alternator work. There may be an aftermarket solution, but I'm not sure. Your bike won't even run with a weak or dead battery. Newer charging systems use a permanent magnet in the alternator.

Eliminating the starter is easy, just need to plug the hole in the case where the starter gear pokes through.

I agree. I know cycle x sells them and you can find the plug on ebay too

You will need to convert the charging system to a permanent magnet type, or convert the ignition to magneto type.

Stock ignition needs electrical power to make spark.
Stock alternator needs some battery power to make any electrical power. (has electromagnet instead of permanent magnet.)

Don't believe the BS at cycle X about 2 hp used by the stock alternator.  One hp=745 watts.  There is just no way that the stock alternator requires 1490 watts to make its rated 210 watt output.  (14% efficiency??  I don't think so.)  They are seriously gilding the lily for that claim.  (Probably in a desperate effort to justify their $450 sales price, I'm guessing.)

I thought one HP was 746 watts?  Just to keep you sharp :-)
