With K0 750 taillight and signals. the tank has a bit of orange peel but came out nice.  The Ebay rear fender is slightly different, it has two lower mount bolts and a raised pad at the lower taillight mount. It does fit and the taillight will bolt up with the added bolt and rubber cushion.  This is just mocked up.

hov can you hold the rods inside the engine?? have you balanced pistons to get a perfekt balance.

..all old stories said at over 9000 rpm it split the engine after a short time..

strynboen,

totally ignorant of that fact , i used to rev it to 13k all the time , especially when i first built it and had boost coming in at 7200.. its better now with boost at 5200 rpm.

rods were fine , top piston rings used to go , but with the yosh big bore it was fine . for the last 10k miles.

in Volvo dt 42 tractor turbo engines the pistons have a cast iron" sleve" cast in the piston holding the top ring,,?is that the vord..for the top ring..so it not veared the groove for the ring..it vas most the pistov veared aut..so the ring got slack and broke.the piston ring vas strong..but the alu piston cut not hold it in posision..have not seen it on mc..engines..but bigger rings/pistons are stronger and have more meat..it make good sense..

i think it was more the fact that ,due to needle jet flow i was running out of fuel at the high rpm .. and so it was lean , overheated the pistons , then the rings grew and butted up ,and then fractured  ,then worked their way up past the piston and went out of the exhaust !

it had a power limit of 60 bhp due to fuel flow limits .... so i fed fuel to the throat with a pipe off the float chamber drain , and power went to 85 bhp in the end , that was when the clutch gave up and span as if it was in neutral.

with the 60 bhp run , pk power was at 11000rpm.following the power band up with the higher boost , i deduce that with the 15 psi ,and the extra fuel ,it would have been around 100 bhp if the clutch had gripped.

engine also had a drastically ported head , stock valves ,and a yoshi big bore kit ... i think it was 450cc , but it may have been bigger .cam was stock .but retarded. cr was 8.5:1.

I had a Lectron carb that had the high speed jet fed from the float bowl. We ran it on methanol on our jr dragster. We were guessing 25 hp.

Mine needs rims and spokes, does anyone have a favorite source? I wouldn't mind aluminum rims.

Hard to beat the quality of Buchanans for stainless spokes and their Sun rims. Pricey, but quality is top shelf- and doesn't your little beauty desrve the best anyway?  ::)

This little beauty is being rebuilt for someone else to love, sun rims would get me close to 1K for tires and rims. This one's on a budget but it does have to be nice. I'm getting a price on chrome DID's and stock type spokes, I would like to go slightly wider on both rims but stock will do on this one.

The DID's are still on the way from Japan, the seller offered to pay shipping if I bought all the things I'd inquired about. I ordered a red seat foam and gaiters for my Sandcast too.
What's everyone's favorite aftermarket shock for the 400F? These are rusty, they might polish up but I'd prefer to improve the shocks, it's like the rims, better is better than best in this case.

It seems like shocks are $80, $280, $500 or $700. I was hoping to find some decent ones around $200, it appears the $185 plus $85 for springs progressives might be closest to my budget. The worrisome part is some of them list them as fitting a GL1000 too, really?

Fresh from Japan, new rims and spokes for the cb400F. I can't wait to take a bolt cutter to the old spokes.

I bought the yellow one back, the neighbor is buying a house and needed the down payment. The best part is my wife is his realtor. Win/win He rode it all summer for $300 and so far I've made $1300 buying and selling it.
I almost sold it again at the swap meet but the buyer found a 350 silver cafe all finished and bought that instead.
