Yep, the original Gold was painted over a silver base. I still do it that way. The plastic was sometimes a light tan color, like beige, and sometimes much darker.

That's interesting about the missing "HM" in the wing logo! I haven't seen that before.

It seems all the aftermarket “diamonds” are missing the HM. Honda chased down the manufacturers and made them stop.

Yeah, I can see why they would do that. ;)

Almost all aftermarket emblems are missing the HM logo but there are a few sellers offering the diamonds with HM logo.  Here is one that is complete rubbish.  The outer border is not stepped correctly and does not have both black and chrome.  The orange plastic is flat and not thick with beveled edges like an original Honda emblem giving it a very distinct, faceted,  jewel like appearance. Awful!

Yamiya candy gold body set shipment has arrived in Thailand, import duties paid, and has cleared customs.

I've bought many OEM NOS Honda parts from this seller.  Always first class.  Received this offer this morning and I hit the accept button.  Reproductions are certainly cheaper but when I look at the side covers it will bring a big smile to my face knowing they are original Honda - worth every penny!

I've always been impressed that Honda used some real good materials for those logos. I have a bunch of them, but only because someone broke off the post on their back sides. Even the ones on my own 750, now 53 years later, look fine!

Gas tank removed.  Same silver metallic paint to the underside.  Nothing worth saving here so heading to landfill.

New gas tank mounts.  The front mounts were in decent shape and still usable - truly amazing for 55 year old rubber.  Back rubber completely disintegrating and crumbling but still did its job and kept the tank firmly in place.   Very impressed with the new NOS Honda rubber.  Very heavy and high density  perfect for absorbing the weight and movement of the tank.  Will the new rubber last another 55 years?

Friday was a holiday here in Thailand so Yamiya body set delivery is scheduled for Monday

Marshmallow. Is that a flasher unit hanging behind the coils? Usually that goes in behind the battery box.

I believe the marshmallow is for the JDM overspeed warning indicator red light.  On my CB550 the marshmallow is located inside the headlight bucket

Genuine NOS Keihin Honda petcock purchased for the new CB750 K1 tank.  There are lots of aftermarket petcocks for sale on ebay of questionable quality.  What is disturbing is the number of petcocks sold as OEM Honda with Honda red packaging labels and even Honda boxes.  I believe almost all of them are fakes made in China and sold as OEM Honda.  I could be wrong about this and can't prove it.

Seller's photos of the petcock I purchased.  I will be reusing the old tank mounting bolts from the old petcock and purchased new red fiber washers.  Sadly many sellers sell the petcocks with mounting bolts with metal locking washers (with cut) or cheap white nylon washers.  Both types of washers might work OK but are not correct.

Believe me the only washer guaranteed to work are the THICK red original type fibre washers, a reasonable amount of time the "dowty sealing" type washer will work

A quick check - The early Honda CB750 and early CB500/550 use the same petcock? Petcock on right side of the tank on the CB750 and left side on the CB550.  Off/Stop lever arm position is pointed forward on the CB750 and pointed back on the CB500/550.

I'm sure to mix this up and get it wrong  ::)

50 year old petcock tank mounting screws with original red fiber washers.  Washers did their job and held up well

Late Edit:  I'm just sitting here bored waiting for the Yamiya candy gold body set delivery with nothing to do so I thought I would take dumb photos of old Honda screws ;D while dreaming of In-N-Out burgers

My tanks got allen head screws I had. Easier to tighten and remove if needed.
I got x-screws and fiber washers with the petcocks.

I put through an offer for this petcock for the CB550.  Tank is solid with no dents or dings with good paint.  Full to the top with gas to prevent rust with added fuel stabilizer as it will sit for a long time.   No leaks to the existing petcock.  It will be a long time until I can get to the CB550 gas tank to treat for rust and replace the petcock but always nice to have the parts on hand and ready-to-go when the motivation kicks in and time allows  :)

A quick followup.  There are many sellers offering  Honda petcocks claiming to be OEM with Red Honda packaging  and outer boxes with Honda labels with mounting bolts and red fiber washers. They look  completely genuine but I believe almost all of them on offer are fakes.

according to CMS, you are right. CMS also sells an aftermarket petcock....and the individual washers.
