Got the ignition back from Cycle x , they swapped it over for the non wasted ignition ie 4 coils.
Just have to mount the big suckers.

Single-Cam-4 Sally

Johno............you know I am watching closely. I have my A-frame in the shop and measuring where to cut and strengthen a few areas. I will use a slightly lengthened K swingarm with K cases to keep things narrow. Right now it looks like a 19" front and 18' rear aluminum comstars with a rear drum brake will work with the narrowest treads I can get. So far have located a set of 110/90s. Will use 520 chain.  My seat / tail is from an RS125 so a slight frame mod is in order.  I plan to use a short gas-tank to allow for taller carbs. My shortened 35mm fork tubes will be in the F3 trees for a slight bit of added rake. Clip-ons are fabricated from Yamaha Virago units for reliability on the indexed adjustments.

The head and barrels are from an F3.  Lots of gears, clutch shaft and chains to sort.  I am most curious about the ignition as I plan to cut-off the crank-tail and use a total loss system.  I use a very small NI battery on my Triumph and lacked a strong spark to burn the mixture under maximum load. Could have been a miss-matched ohm resistance through the coil. It worked but not as good as I hoped.

Valves, guides, springs, keepers, cam, and a strengthened valve cover are on my shopping list with Kenny. I'll start my own build thread when I can actually bolt something together.

How about Bananas and custard.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D only joking.  ::)

There was a very fast sprint bike in England in the 60s, it was called Yellow Peril, sounds about right for the job as I think it took some British land speed records as well.

"non wasted ignition"??? Doesn't that system fire all four coils every 180 degrees of crankshaft rotation?

Scottly,
This brand supply two types of ignition , I ordered the non wasted version but was sent the wasted version with two coils.  I thought about returning the two coils only and keep the light pick up sensors and wiring but when I looked the pick up outputs only had two wires to the coils so I sent the lot back for exchange, I checked the new pickups and they were indeed different with four output wires for four coils.

They were sold to me as individual spark per cylinder not 180 like the dual coil version, they are supposed to have a RPM limiter as well. The key features of this ignition are light sensor pick ups,  not magnetic and the spark is controlled to provide 3 short hard sparks from the firing point rather than a single spark.

I purchased seperately a laptop connection to allow reprogramming of the advance curves and RPM limiter as well.

I know the wasted spark systems are well proven and they work well at over 200mph on big momma Hyabusa's but feeling a bit old school about having a spark happening somewhere else.  You have to remember Scottly being an old fart  I was influenced by the RC Engineering days and there maggies having one spark one cylinder , they had a lot of success and I guess I'm hoping it rubs off.  For nostalgia I was planning to run a maggie but aerodynamically on the salt it would suck.

Cheers

Are the pickups referenced to the cam? If referenced to the crank, this system will still waste sparks. ;) Not saying it's a problem; just wanted to be clear.

Hi Scottly,
It is referenced from the crank.

I know your a bit of electrical wizz so you may be able to help me.    Maybe my terminology is wrong. I am using wasted and non wasted spark  in reference to dual coils creating a spark on two plugs at once, non wasted sparking on one plug at a time.   The people from PA are claiming the module is programmed to deliver one spark at a time, they reference the trigger to no 1 on the crank and the light sensor on the crank has 360 degree triggers ( one per degree on the light wheel on the crank) to which the module must recognise when 720 degrees is up and time to spark again.  ( rather than 360 deg)

The system is Power Arc
If it sparks two coils at once I will be not happy and use it for ars# paper and back to a maggie.
Whats the best way to test it Scottly, ....hold two plugs 1 & 4 at once , crank it over and see if it hurts both hands at once ???? just joking ;D
Cheers johno

If the trigger(s) are on the crank, then it is a wasted spark; there is no way to tell the difference between the #1 firing point and the #4. This can only be determined at the cam...

Mr current world champion....Dennis  ( has it got a nice sound to it Den ?) ;D ;D ;D

re the tyres Den:
first up I will use 19 inch front and back...........either Bridgestone Battlax 110/80  ZR-19   or Dunlop Sportmax 110/80 ZR-19
Any handling issues I will then try 18 inch rear  tyre  in matching brand.  Den I have a skinny swingarm 45mm narrower for the 19 inch but a spare std K swing arm for the 18 inch mag I have ..............so if the rad set up is a problem I just swap over the complete swingarm and 18 inch wheel.

Will have both rigid struts and shockers depending on how it all pans out.    Once on a previous thread you talked aerodynamics and I thought what you said made sense so I have been trying to create those numbers by using a over the top engine exhaust and narrower swing arm, trying to use the exhaust pipe over the engine to act as an aerodynamic aid.  Not sure if it will achieve anything but a mans gotta try. ;)
cheers johno
