a 15,000 rpm tach may be on the cards,  there has been a radical change of plans in the engine department
WHY ?

Couple of weeks ago I was asking Mike R for some advice and help,  his passion for the old SOHC motors is unimaginable. Mike has access to a dedicated High RPM salt cam, which then needs lots of air, Compression, and to get the combo to work lots of RPM.  He has made me feel the project is a bit special as he is committed to supplying whats required and jumping in boots and all. Mike sent me some pics of a few items that fair dinkum blew me away.
We are thrashing around getting organised now but when things start to come together I'll keep everyone updated, I hope Mike takes a few happy snaps of his journey so he can share his passion.

If I thought for one minute we could get 150mph on the salt with a naked bike I would be more than happy to run the engine to 15,000 RPM or BANG and still be happy for trying ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Fair dinkum I want that waterbottles ars#  ;)

Sam........Good Reminder............K7 cases in the A-frame with F2 head, swingarm and tranny for starters but things can change.

Johno..........I will be running in the new CLASSIC class at 750cc. I have a goal of 157 mph naked and 183 PS.  I'll be getting into the serious build stage about the time you make your runs............I don't anticipate more than 11,500 rpms to be the peak power range for my motor.........but Mike may have to come up with another cam if it works for you.

These are my shed or transport wheels, two standard fronts but one front one rear, just for moving the bike and looking at, dont want no flat spots on the good rubber, primed them today for some colour, cant make my mind up, all yellow, or yellow hub and rims with black spokes,  yellow rims black hub and spokes ?

Den, dont worry I'm thinking similiar revs to you, BUT after say three runs,  things are getting sorted and getting close to the record I am more than happy to make the ultimate financial sacrifice to get the big 150 number.  I want it bad ! ;)

Den With regard to next months Bonny meet I wish you well.......am envious mate.  I guess your pretty organised given your a bit of an old timer at it now.  Make sure you ride safe mate and save yourself for next year and the big 150 on an old jigger.  When my time comes later this year I will keep you well informed on everything I do on the chance it may help you with your new baby.

I done so much planning it drove me nuts, so now I just do stuff and spend as required, ;D

Cheers Johno

RE PRO STOCK bike.
I dont know where Pete gets these pics but they turn me on mate keep em coming.,
On a couple of other threads long time ago I mentioned an Adelaide guy named mark Skehan who was a RC distributer , keen drag racer and eventually purchased the pro 1 bike from RC.
This was his practice bike.

This is the bike Mark went to the states and bought at the last meet of the year in the pits.
Bloody sounded nice mate, goose bump stuff.

Love the tyres rims, love the front forks, love the swing arm, love the short top end velocity stacks, most of all love the number !
Enjoy , cheers Johno
thanks Pete. I feel 41 years younger.

A SERIOUS build effort.................Father Mike???

I like the options you are covering. I am taking a little different approach..........starting with a frame from an automatic to make head or motor removal a lot easier.............would like to run 21" wheels but likely to settle on the narrowest set of 19" on 1.85 rims because of required speed-ratings.  I'll use a very light drum-brake on the rear

But first I have to complete my current effort with the Triumph Cub..........we leave for Bonneville in 4 weeks and still have a lot of work to accomplish :) :) :)

Congratulations on your new record Dennis, Well done mate.

Cheers,
Brian

well done Dennis, ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I,m sure you'lll get to read the messages from well wishers, its great mate, you not only talk the talk but walk the walk as well.   Not something thats easy to do but you deserve the record mate you have been putting in the hard yards.

Right, from now on Den its time for you to start a thread in the hipo for your next project ;)

I need the tips ;) :D :D :D :D :D    ...................hurry up  ;) ;D

I have heard some goss back from the ozzy brigade over there at Bonny BUBS
Some of the bikes went on a shipping journey to a few more countries than they were supposed to.........late.
The BUB organisers assigned  a pit area for the ozzie boys and girls and everyone said they were really helpfull
Evelyn Scholz on her 1000 A/BG set new record 192.9
Shane Gaghan set a new FIM and AMA record on his suzuki 750 turbo @ 750 M/BG
On Tuesday one of the ozzy blokes got a mean speed wobble on his Jawa and got spat off and spent the night at SLC hospital with concussion, is OK now just shoulder ligaments.

Gee Jerry those Honda 750 numbers you mentioned are worrying for me.  125mph
The current record holder in my modified 750 class is 149.3 mph and that was set by a 750 waterbottle,
I seen his dyno sheets at 115 HP at rear wheel........bugger ....I'm dreaming of 90 plus........I'm thinking I  will need someone  real skinny skinny jocky....the suzy man had special cast cylinders but I will have an old poxy head from Mike on mine so cant wait to see what happens.  I personally am hoping for 140mph any more will be a tad optimistic I think.  Based on Dennnis advice I have been working hard on the frontal area and narrowing the rear. Just this week I have started on two exhaust systems, 4 to 4 and 4 to 1 trying to get them up and over the engine rather than under but the rear of the bike is proving a challenge, I might have to cut and shut the frame a lot more to try and get them in tight enough so we can sit on them  ;D ;D ;D  hot stuff baby

Any way rambling on, I'll save it for the pics.    johno

Johno.........Bear..........Sam..........and others...........Thanks for following my 'going fast - slowly' effort on the Triumph Cub. We now have the fastest AMA 250cc Push-Rod bike but I am well aware of others in SCTA with faster speeds.  We will be back next year with a few improvements.  This year's effort got a bit tight at end of prep ............we blew the head gasket on the 3rd heat cycle. Made new thinner gaskets with smaller stud holes and increased the thickness of the base-plate to compensate on the day before we left for Bonneville. We tuned on the practice track and made our best attempt on the first run.

I will have more pics in a few days to put on the facebook: saltteamadvancedlandspeed page.  Special thanks to Zak (Grasscutter) and Jerry (Rxman) for helping in the pits and taking all of the (hoped-for) pics.

Regarding sohc CB750s..............one is a board member from Ontario. He ran a nearly stock and street-legal bike showing a cam, header, and pods..........and ran in the low 120s.  The other was from Japan with a few more goodies and updates to the wheels and suspension............but was running in the low 120s at last visit in the pre-stage lines.

Johno...............Yes, its time for me to start my own thread..............just as soon as a I actually begin the build.
