75 was the first year.  I'd offer to triple his money in a second.

First person to be descent and offer $200.00 will  probably get it. Like mentioned first year bike, even shares a few parts from the 750's.  BUT where are the CARBS -----

I was thinking that it was the first year. Yeah, indoors all it's life except when it was ridden, and probably maintained if it was grampa's.

Yeah, if they were taking it across the scales they probably don't expect to get rich off it. I'm sure that there is a part or two that could be worth what you paid, but then you wouldn't have a whole bike.

I bet grampa had them in a box. It looks to be in good shape for 40.

No.   ;D

You can buy nice, good running early (75-83) Wings all day long around here for $1000-2000.  Later ones start to get a little more.  I wouldn't even take that for free unless I wanted parts.

I'm sure someone will snipe it. For me inside tins on it make it attractive, storing another bike until I have resources to work on it doesn't. They don't seem as de$irable as the 750's of the same vintage.

I picked up a gl1100 along with a 75 gl1000 a few months ago and have finally started working on the 1100 and I'm finding out parts for gl's aren't cheap especially carb rebuild kits, it wouldn't be so bad if the carbs didn't need new air cut off valves. My wallet took a $200 hit for a complete kit OUCH!! What makes my situation a bit un-nerving is that I don't know what shape the engine is in and won't know till I get it running but in order to do so the carbs must be working properly. The carb kits wont be here till Monday so hopefully I'll have it ready to fire up next weekend. All I can say is this sucker better run good, it has only 30k miles on it so I'm crossing my fingers.

Must be something about gl1000 carbs because the 75 GL is missing it's carbs too.

What am i missing, carbs show up in the pics that i am seeing
First year wing stored inside, not faded and weathered, looks like worth getting to me.
Would you pass over a KO 750. In that condition, if the heads and barrels were missing?

Thanks Frank, I thought I was seeing carbs , and I was. Where are the heads though ? Nice clean front end for a CB750 conversion for a few hundred $ plus lots of other parts to boot , if restoring to a runner proved uneconomic, still sounds attractive to me.

A Weber conversion? I saw a used dual weber set up for a Wang sell for $600+ on ebay and that's way too much for me though it sure would've looked cool. I might have an old Q-jet laying around and maybe a 600cfm Holley but either one would be a bit much for 1100 cc's to handle. I could tie shut the secondaries I guess. :)

It's certainly worth a couple hundred bucks and you should be able to find all the parts you need for reasonable cost if you join ngwclub.com and are patient.  It's possible that a belt snapped and took out the valve train.  It's an interference motor, so it's critical that the belts are replaced regularly.  The bodywork looks decent and it would look a whole hell of a lot better if you returned it to naked condition.  If the seat is as nice as it appears to look, it's worth at least $100 and so is the Hondaline backrest.  Those are getting harder and harder to find.

I like my '77 GL1000 and so does my girlfriend.  It's the only bike besides my Vulcan that she's willing to ride on.  Plenty of power, decent brakes, and runs smooth as silk.  The engine is like no other.  If you get it, the NGW guys will welcome you with open arms and will do everything they can to help you get it back on the road.

Here's my baby...

G'day Scott, jump onto the "Naked Goldwings" site, there are several single carb threads there, folks are making their own manifolds using PVC pipe and fittings (no sh1t, and it works!) and Volkswagen carbs, or used Webers off eBay and home made manifolds for cheap too. I've seen a small Holley 4 barrel carb in one thread, and it apparently works pretty well too.

I couldn't initially understand how a single carb could be better than 4 separate carbs, but the trick is that with longer intake runners you get a little more torque, which makes for quicker acceleration with a little less top end speed, which is irrelevant on a 'Wang, no-one rides a 'Wang at warp speed, they're a smooth riding bike and meant for long distances, not sprints.

I've got a bare GL1000 frame (I ratted the 1977 rolling chassis I bought for the front end for my 750 and the wheels for my son's CX500 project) and my old "Made in the USA" GL1200 engine and am still thinking of building it into a bike. If I do, I think I'll "single carb" it (I don't have another set of carbs, but I don't like those old Honda CV's anyway) and see if it works as well as the NGW guys are saying. Cheers, Terry. ;D

I would have spent the $200 for the carb kits on the Webers instead. ;) If I was on a budget, I would adapt a couple of one barrel carbs sized for a VW, or something along those lines.

This is getting up there again price-wise, but I've seen one of these kits modified for a 'Wang, and the good thing is, it's all new. Cheers, Terry. ;D
