Neutral switch wire route

I am restoring a K1 750 and the neutral wire was broken. I have repaired the switch and found the wire from the harness however it's not clear the route down to the switch. There doesn't seem to be an obvious one after checking all the manuals I have.
Can anyone describe the path of this wire or provide a pic please?
My best guess is that it goes through the gear shift cover on left side and pops out underneath?

Sorry if this is a dumb question!

I have found this photo in a CB750 restore project. I connected this way (not the short cut beside the gear selector)

That's how all of mine are routed. The photo is from underneath and the wire is routed up through the sprocket well. This wire typically remains well lubed. Near the top there originally would have been another fold-over tab to help hold the wire away from the sprocket. It would not be visible in this photo but would be near the top left of the picture.

Thanks. I think if I make tabs that looks like a plan!  Is that the way they came from the factory?

Another photo of the same restore I found here or another site. (I saved some photos that show all tabs for wires on engine. Neutral and ignition wires.)
