rocks on the freeway can be a #$%*.  My family friend built a trailer, powder coated it, then a week after he finished it, the leading edge got chipped up after hitting a patch of loose gravel, got wet and the moisture spread under the powder coat.  He stripped it down to the metal then painted it.

Not saying that is all that common or going to happen on my bike, just saying that is one attribute of powder coat I don't love.

My trade is in industrial epoxies, done both electrostatic and lots powdercoating too, if powdercoating is done well it is the most durable coating of the lot, I'd say the prep wasn't that good if a small piece of gravel chipped the powder, it should take a much bigger hit than that.  Everyone knows someone with a "story".... ;D

If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.

You can repair damaged powder without having to redo the whole thing, if you have the facilities and if you know what you are doing... 8)

After powdercoating my frame, I noticed a blemish that bothered me, where I didn't finish the grinding adequately. I had my painter blend it out, and painted that section in perfectly matching acrylic enamel paint. Powdercoated frames can be touched up.

Im not sure what I am going to go yet for my color scheme on the bike, and next week I will have to let them know what color I want the spring on my monoshock to be...

Im thinking just a chrome spring would look good with everything, or doing Honda red, which would pop as well..

My fear is black will disappear, not that that is the worst thing in the world.  The thought for the polished is to give the bike some symmetry.  The wheels are both polished, the front folk legs (tubes and lowers) are polished, I think it may look nice popping that color on the rear monoshock as well, but I still need to photoshop it.
If you can't fix it with a hammer, it's an electrical problem... If it's an electrical problem, it's Cal's problem.
