Happy 30th dude!! I had mine last year and it's a weird but hey I'm still 18 in my head.... Congrats on the Concert/Speech....its easy to get caught up in the day to day and forget what an amazing thing you're doing....Happy for you man...And not a bad view either....you girl catch you drooling a bit??  :o  haha.

That 550 is going to be a magazine bike for sure man, wish we lived closer so we could tear around together man. Finally getting some nice weather tomorrow so going to split the day with my mistresses.....Harley and Honda.... I'll give you a shout buddy. Take it easy.

Ah gotcha! I think it is just the oversized intake valves, so maybe that is 3+ :P

Is there any pros/cons to installing the piston/rod in from the top of the cylinder then attaching it to the crank vs attacking the piston/rods to the crank then lowering the cylinder down on top of it and installing the pistons from the bottom? I have seen it done both ways.

To me it makes sense to install them from the top as the rings will scrape the excess oil off the walls (functioning as they would typically) instead of pushing them up from the bottom with oil getting collected on top of them?

Yep they are stock rods that Mike worked his magic on (with the upgraded hardware from the late model 750)

Sorry, Guys, was driving home from an all day session with Fezzler...

I use a local guy, Andy Vaughan of Thermal Tech Coatings, in Hopewell, VA. He charges $15/piston/coat.
What you see is:
- a Thermal Reflective coat on the domes (helps reflect the combustion heat back up towards the head and away from the underside of the piston. Some arguments too about it helping with a more complete burn of the fuel and reduction of carbon build-up.

- skirts are treated with Dry Film Lubricant for dry starts, reduced friction (less heat) and prolongs the life of the slug

- underside of piston is treated with Oil Shed coating. This I had applied to help prevent crankcase oil from clinging to the piston and absorbing heat from combustion, thereby in theory keeping oil temp lower. How much? No clue. worth it? $60 against the price of a build and cooler oil on an air-cooled motor; I think so.

If you would like some assistance on logistics, you are welcome to send them to me, and I will ferry them back and forth to Andy. But Brian, that motor deserves these coatings. And Matt, at least the upper 2 for yours since you're running an oil cooler on your track bike.

  I PM'd you to remind that the cylinder needs to be thoroughly washed out with hot, soapy water. Dry and wipe the sleeves out with paper towel and WD40 until the towel comes out clean. Cleanliness cannot be over emphasized! ;) ;D

Will Do!  I am considering painting (or some other expensive treatment Cal makes me pay for  ;)) the cylinder and block sanding the fins, either way it will be spotless when I install it  :D

Thanks again for doing all this work for me. I was typing up and email but figured it might just be easier to reply to your comment here. I am beyond excited to get this thing together and making noise. Needless to say, everyone I have shown photos to have been blown away by your work!  Now I just need to sell some body parts and make a call to Megacycle  8)

Which cam, Bryan? The 126-20 I used with the +1 intakes and Wiseco required a relief cut be milled in the pistons. I see Mile already milled the cam relief in the head so I was wondering if you're going ultra hot...
