I just don't sleep much anymore. Up at 0130, out in the shop by 0200. Pretty quiet. Stickers are always a PIA. Heat gun, goof off and I used those towels I posted about. Came off easier than others I have removed.

A little farther today. The Showa shocks cleaned up nice.





Exhaust removed for frame cleaning and polish. Speaking of polished "off" I need another bottle.



In hindsight I wished I would of asked about this invoice. As you can see it's a whole new top end including a valve job. If the speedometer is working and the invoice shows the mileage it equates to 1311 miles ago or 1991.

Did inventory on three boxes today. Some parts backordered. More to order. All carburetor parts are in. Shipment from Poland got here in four days. Go figure.

Cleaned up the exhaust this morning. Left side is useable, right side not so much. Shame really.

Not sure what options I have other than new from the Netherlands.

Yup, part of frame and swing arm also. At least I think it is however the battery box is perfect. Go figure.

If I thought painting them flat black I would go with it however I think it's probably not feasible.

Other than the acid stains, those pipes are really nice.  I'd just sand blast them and paint them with VHT black paint.  They'd look just right on your bike.

The right side has some heavier rust which should remove. The end cap aleady has a small hole. The left has a rusted area on the bottom which probably would blast thru.

It is an option however. Wes Cooley eh?

Braze & paint or ceramic;the 83' Suzuki that I owned had great looking Black-Chrome exhaust,it would be nice if you could find a black coating that is still somewhat transparent,etc. like that black coating Suzuki used over their factory silver chrome.. at least that's my guess of what they did..
I cleaned mine up Real strong w/ 'Never Dull wadding polish' numerous times and the 'black' was looking lighter and the chrome was more silver.., just a thought.

Ceramic coating is another option and would be superior to paint.

The PC shop down the street that I use has gloss black ceramic coating that I'm going to use for my headpipe,they have to heat their oven to over 500degrees+ and then the final curing is done on the bike.

I contacted Jake this morning who has done a lot of powder coating for me in the past. I see they now offer Ceramic coating. (been a few years)

I'll run the exhaust up there and have him look at it to see what we can do. Like I said it has some rust thru the end cap and some rust on the left lower side that's almost through the muffler. This area would not hold but it's underneath and out of sight.

Worst case would be to blast around these areas then go for paint. I prefer Ceramic but it is what it is.

Carburetors removed easily with the exception of the "pinhead" that thinks these screws should be tighten down to 15 foot pounds.

Normal screwdriver wouldn't budge them, all rounded from the wrong tool and the lower right screw on the right side needed needle nose vise grips to break free. Last shot I had versus drilling out. Sounded like the Navy out in the shop this morning. Damn, they were tight. Idiot.

I went to the hardware store and spent $2.50 on screws and some washers. They are 1 mm to long but Suzuki wants $2.95 each times 8. Forgetaboutit.

The good news is the fact the diaphragms are in good nick. Only one place has them, at a cost. 166 euro's each! No, it's not a mistype. Specific to the BS34SS carburetors.

A little more motor cleaning this morning. Plenty more to clean once the swing arm is removed. Getting a box together for powder coat.

Depending on how much you want to spend on repair, refinish, or even another set of pipes, you might save money and time on your set if the rusted area was wire-wheeled or ground clean, then use a bit of JB Weld to fill in the holes.  I did that to a 400F collector last year that was worse then your pipes and it's holding up very well.  It's probably not a permanent repair, but it's an affordable/easy option.

Yeah, got a '79 GS1000S "Wes Cooley"..the only non-Honda I've ever owned.  Love this bike.

I'm amazed how many different models Suzuki manufactured in the 70's and 80's.

Yes, I have options and found another set off a GS450 which I believe we're the same. Waiting on pictures, has surface rust although I don't know how bad.

I was ready to spring for a new set but it appears the center stand bumper and bracket was on the right side. Mine is on the left. I wouldn't think the euro model would be different. No confirmation of fitment in a reply from CML. Can't roll the dice.
