Seat latch?
« on: June 06, 2016, 04:37:56 PM »
Hey guys! I got a 76 cb550f last year that needed a complete overhaul, I stripped it down the the frame and let it sit for almost a year (pretty typical story).  I've learned a lot and recently rebuilt the forks master cylinder and carb.

Now I'm stuck...  I don't remember doing this,  but I took the seat release latch apart and now I don't know how the peg (that the latching mechanism grabs on to)  mounts on the bottom of the seat.  If anyone could take a picture of the bottom of their seat looks so I can figure out how to fix this problem that would be prime.

There should be two studs that the latch slides on and then some rubber washers and nuts.

Is that the right seat??

Are you looking at the hinge side maybe?

Its not the hinge side. Those 2 holes with the rust around them are approximately where the hook would be mounted.  I can't for the life of me find a picture on line of how it's mounted on there.

Like Stev-O said, should be some grommets and studs. Here's some pictures of my 1972 CB500

Ordinarily, yes.

That's Honda's standard "isolation bushing" design from the era - a rubber grommet pressed through the isolated part, with a metal center bushing, secured by either a bolt and washer, or on a stud with nut and washer.

This is the same mounting you'll find on the 750's oil tank, instrument cluster mounts, battery tray mounts, and so forth.

I need to learn how to check my messages!  Sorry for the delay and thanks for all the responses. It looks like a mount might screw into those 2 holes and the hook goes on that mount. Only think is I have no idea where that mount is or what it looks like.
