Clutch Diagram Explaination?
« on: May 13, 2016, 06:35:18 AM »
Sorry to keep being a bother with this. I just can't help but think I'm missing something. What are parts 6-7?

One of them will be a standard steel plate used in the earlier clutches while the other one will be the "double" thick steel plate that is riveted together that was used in the later clutches. It is an either/or as opposed to "both". There was an overlap one year so the fiche is a "universal" diagram to cover both configurations.

Thanks. Idk I replaced everything a while back and its hasn't been right. It "slips" in upon take off and isn't very smooth. My 75 is smooth as silk and engages nicely. Upon inspection both are assembled identically with ebc plates and springs. So again I'm beyond understanding what the problem is.

looks like your diagram is for a 550 clutch?
indeed, 6 is the normal steel disc and 7 is the "damper plate". in your parts list you can see from what engine number on it was used.
i don't think the damper plate is available any more and if so it would be super expensive. the good news is that it's not really needed for a functioning clutch, it was just an effort to reduce rattle. if you have the later model basket and don't use a damper plate you may want to fill up the space left by the missing damper, for example with thicker plates or an extra steel disc. it's possible that you now have too much free space in the basket.
maybe post some pics of the stack?

Did the EBC include steel plates, or are you using stock steels? If you are using stock steel plates, did you check them for warpage?

No but I ordered the oem ones. I never change friction without new steels on principal.
