My bike is 1976 Honda cb 550k.  The wiring harness is custom. However, I had a pretty cheap left side control switch in it prior to me attempting to put the stock switch back in.  The previous switch had everything working.  The stock switch I just put in I cannot get the horn button to work.  I did notice on the aftermarket junk switch there was a black wire coming off of it that said "horn or Kill switch".  I had this black wire off the switch going to ground and the horn button worked fine.  On the Honda switch there is no black wire.  Just the light green horn wire.
My question is does there have to be a ground wire on the honda left side switch?  Is it missing?  Or does the switch itself ground to the handlebar somehow?  If that was so then it should be working.
i have the light green horn wire hooked up to the switch and the horn button will not work
Any help would be great!
Below is my issue
Honda switch I am putting back on the bike are the first two pics
the third is the aftermarket wiring that had everything working.. Note the black wire on it.

yes, it is hooked up like that now.  Light green wire runs from the stock switch to the horn.  THe black wire on the horn is grounded.
I hooked up a on off two pole switch and the horn worked fine.   I grounded the switch to the frame and ran the light green wire from the horn.  Worked perfect.

BAD ground at the switch.  I put a wire in that little hole in the center of the one side of the switch and ground it to the frame and BOOM loud ass horn!
my question is.. what grounds that switch housing?  In the photos below there is a threaded hole and no screw in there or wire or whatever.  Does anyone have a photo of a properly constructed and not tampered guts of a left side switch?
the internet got nothin.
below is mine..

what grounds that switch housing?

The switch is grounded to the handlebars which is connected to the frame via the top triple clamps. When the handlebars were painted this ground connection was lost...

Either scrape paint off the clamping surface of your switch, AND where it touches on the handlebar, and ensure your handlebar is grounded, OR run a ground strap from one of your mounting screws from the switch body to your lower triple clamp.

I ended up wiring in a ground inside the switch and carried the wire down the loom and tied into the ground on the light.
Took a while to figure that out.  Hopefully this thread will help someone out who has powdercoated clip ons
