These cb750s rip!!!
« on: August 04, 2016, 04:27:37 PM »
So I have been building a 78 cb750 f'er for the past 2 years on and off. Just finished fully tuning my carbs. I will post settings when I can confirm. Had the same setup with out vac sync, just a bench sync. I had problems with low throttle response. Vac sync'd them and that cleared right up. She pulls really nice now. Really good transitions, no dead spots. I was really surprised when I did some pulls. Figured out how 70s brakes work. Lol. Not great. So pumped though. My seat is on some wooden guides and the seat was sliding when I started getting into the torque Rpms. Need to bolt that thing down.

Also put some hagons twin shocks (219) on the back and it feels so much better than my frozen up stockers. Might be a bit soft but I need to tune them in a bit.

I once took my 74 up to 115 before I remembered that I had brakes built in the 70s and thought it best to back off the throttle

I think it was actually 125 but anything can be made to go faster. I was just BS'n about doing it in 3rd. I have really had it to the ton a few times but I was in 5th. Had more room to go but I backed her down. I went 110 on my old Kawi 1000 LTD but the front end started shaking.

Hey Fred...I had a Kaw 1000 LTD years ago too, great bike.  I would max it out at 125 repeatedly trying to keep up with my brother on his Yamaha XS1100 - his did 130.
I never had a shake....

Well mine didn't have a new, balanced front tire but what I'm saying is I had it at that speed with room to go faster.

Now my xvz1300 it's a wall at about 97 but that's because of the extra wind resistance and 3rd wheel from the sidecar

Yep, my '82 LTD 1000 would go into a weave above 110 after it got some miles on it.  It could be ridden for miles that way as it never turned into anything violent. Top speed was in the 125 MPH range.  You had to calculate speed from the tachometer since it had the gov't mandated 85 MPH speedometer.  Fifth gear was 15 MPH per 1000 RPM and it could peg the 8500 RPM redline in 5th pretty quickly.  Below 100 it tracked like it was on rails and cornered better than anything vintage I have owned.  I think the 81 and up "J" motor (998cc) bikes benefited from frame improvements that Kawasaki was doing for Eddie Lawson and the Superbike team.
