I have been using paper towels. Would a tampon work better?  I am adding oil each day so the level is fine and my oil light has yet to come on.

Rode down the bourbon trail from Indiana today. It smelled like sugar. Ha ha. I had no idea about the white bourbon 🥃. Nuts

How often do you have to replace the paper towels before they get so saturated they don't do any good? How much oil are you using between fuel stops?

I haven't put any in between fuel stops. Only at the end of the day. Yesterday I added about 5 ounces. I am waiting for it to be cooled and then I will check tomorrow for how much I need to add. The towels are saturated pretty quickly. I will use a tampon tomorrow and see how that does

Well, the paper towels don't have a string for removal. Just depends on the 'flow rate' I guess....

Mooshi, My 74 was shedding enough oil at one time that I bought fishing wader pants at a WalMart and cut the leg off and rode with that over my pants.  Changed from synthetic oil back to Delo 15W40 and it slowly quit leaking to the point that I just got an occasional spatter on my pants.

For what it is worth; and I am not trying to start an oil argument.  Might be useful info if you happen to be running synthetic.

Best of Luck !

No matter what you use to absorb the oil ...just don't let it get so bad that it dribbles back to the tire. That would be a real bad thing!!

Maybe you could tape the tampon to your leg.

Maxi-pad might work better taped to the leg? Sorry Lisa. :-X

I am presently in Kentucky. This oil leak is driving me batty. Anyone know where Honda man \ Mark lives?  If it is in my path I my contact him and have him fix that head\puck gasket leak and fly back to get it when it is repaired. Or just keep riding and wiping my left leg of flung oil. Otherwise Dash is doing so well.

Hi Lisa,

Try to post a pic of the source of the leak tomorrow.
Would be good to get a better sense of the cause.
Might just need a little attention to the rocker cover bolts or adjuster caps.

Yup it's that damned pick. Everything else is buttoned up fine. Where is the best place to plug it?  I have been putting the towels on the seam of the heads left side. I assume there isn't some mysterious other place it should go?  And I am making very certain it is not near the tire. So far so good on that front

Here are pics.

Looks like you've been towelling between the head and cylinder.
If that's the source you don't have much to worry about, except the mess.
Oil passage O-ring seal between the head & cylinder is a common fail on the 500/550.
Would need to get really bad to cause issues with the rear tire too. Keep doing what you're doing and have a great time.

Looks like a lot of oil on the top cylinder head fin? Is the tappet cover we replaced the o-ring on still leaking, or was it really just oil being blown back around the cover? You may need to stuff some paper towel someplace on the top to keep the oil off your leg.

Mooshie,
I think you are right about leaking pucks, especially if there is oil out the front of the motor, too.
Its about two hour job to replace those, and not particularly difficult.
Do you have replacements?

Is there any 500/550 experts in her intended path  that can maybe fix it.
I will toss in some cash via PayPal to help that along if we can organize it.
