CB750 clutch question - lifter plate "button"
« on: May 12, 2015, 02:07:54 PM »
Working on a '72 CB750 clutch, and noticed that at some point Honda changed/superceded the clutch lifter "button" (22846-300-000 to 22846-300-010, the piece that goes in the center of the lifter plate bearing) and added a "tip" in the center (the earlier ones just being a flat top).  It looks like it'd go into the center of the clutch mainshaft (where the oil would be coming out.)  Does anyone know why? Was this Honda's attempt at getting more oil into the clutch?

Not 100% sure, but I think the purpose may be to maintain alignment of the lifter plate. This may have been part of the effort to quieten the clutch down?

The reference I’ve seen for clutch lifter: 22846-300-010 is used when upgrading the early 750 clutches to the late factory style.

Apologies for the poor photo quality as it’s a copy of a copy.

I looked at my K7 part, from engine # 2704603, and it doesn't have the "tip"?

Hi Scottly,

Is there a possibility the clutch has been changed? Has your K7 got the larger plate on the outside with the slant cut corks? Does it also have the 'double steel friction plate'? If not, then likely clutch has been changed/modified some time during its life.

Disco, my K7 motor does have the double steel plate, the larger outside plate, and the deeper clutch basket. I think I was the first person to open it up after leaving the factory. ;)
