Something is not right with the vreg, or battery, if it wont hold a charge with those numbers.
The fact that the battery is above 13v after 36hrs off the charger, and that the vreg is putting out 14+v at idle...both raise red flags.

The battery is holding a charge:

Correction!! I assumed that the battery was dead, since it couldn't run the starter, because that made sense. I just tried to measure the battery again just now, and remember, i couldn't start the bike 2 hours ago with the electric start because of low power. But it says 14,2V. And it just sat there.. This doesn't make sense for me.

So to sum it up, the bike gives me readings well in spec for charging the battery when driving. But anyhow, it acts like theres no power after 15-20km when shut it off and wan't to start it again(kick starter works fine). And the battery reads 14,2V which should be fine. This doesn't make any sense for me.

The battery is holding a charge. The issue is that the starter will not engage when pressing the start button.

So back to my earlier response:

>Starter button. Did you paint your handlebars and/or top triple? This is a very important piece of information.
>Starter solenoid. The starter solenoid can be reconditioned to work like new
>Starter

The starter does engage, theres just not power enough to pull the engine. The starter button/console is brand new. I misunderstood the question with the clicking sound, i listened while i turned the key. Tried again, and the solenoid DO engage/click when hitting the starter button.

BUT... I bought a new voltmeter since the casing on the old one was broken.. Guess what.. Quite different readings. Measured the battery off the bike to 9,8V and on the bike when idling at around 8V.

I know this thread has been somewhat confusing... I am too. Going to charge the battery again and see what it says. It may be that my brand new gel battery is just not working right or that the charging system is crap. Going to have to get some measurements with the bike running again, can't trust the old ones now.

There it is  :)
Your battery should read in the 12.7v range, two+ hrs after its come off the charger.
If you are below that, time for a new battery, or at least have an auto store load test it for you.

Definitely tough to troubleshoot when the symptoms keep changing...  ;)

Can't make much of this. Let's move away from your measurements for the time being. Do you remember, when the bike wouldn't start, were the neutral and oil lights bright or dim?

They where bright. So was the headlight/tail light.

Measured on the bike today, with new voltmeter. No charge. Checked the wiring from the stator and there it was. One of the yellow wires where broken. Soldered it up and there we go, charging the battery again. My false positives from the old voltmeter made me not consider anything wrong with the stator/wires.

Thanks for all the feedback, it was/is appreciated.

One more thing is the ground cable from battery (-).
It must have good contact with frame and engine. On a CB750 around the rear upper engine hanger bolt, frame paint removed where it has contact, greased with vaseline  or similar. The electric starter will work really well.
