Rear wheel dampeners 1978 cb750k
« on: June 12, 2018, 11:57:23 AM »
Good day to all! I've been a member for quite a while. Started with a 77 750k that was in my barn when we moved to the country. That has proved to be a long project. Wanting to ride bad, I found a pretty nice 78 CB750k with 18k miles last fall and rode a lot, loved it. I live in Oklahoma and actually rode a lot this winter.
This spring I noticed the chain was stretched and started in. Decided to do wheel bearings, chain, sprockets , brakes and swing arm while I was there. Had everything down for a while as I collected parts. Going back together now and I can not figure how to put the rubber dampeners in. Can't find good pictures. The way I've put them in now, the nubs on the back hit none of the holes. Also, it seems to hold the cover a little high. Hoping someone can help. I will try to get a picture here.
Thanks For the help all of you have given through this website.

Page 13-8 in the OEM shop manual has pictures. From what I can tell you have them installed correctly, though the pictures in my manual are not the clearest. There is a rubber o-ring seal on that side (?if I remember correctly? see page 13-4) that can be a very tight fit. Sometimes it takes a sharp blow to seat it. In his book--HondaMan suggests putting plywood on the floor (to protect the hub) then another piece on top of the hub and then jump on it to seat the o-ring. I haven't tried that technique but he has a lot more experience than I do with this. Just be careful! Best of luck!

Appreciate the advice. 2 x 4 and a 5 lb sledge did the trick. Took it slow and it came together good.
Thanks

Don't forget the inner spacer between the wheel hub and the sprocket hub.  ;)

I just lube them a bit. And or wiggle it in.
Those may be rubbers from a different year, there are several types.
If you got it in, it will work.

+5 for lube!
I use floor soap or dish soap to be sure that the rubber will not react badly.
I guess tire assembly grease will work fine too. I'll try that next time.

There are different types.
The one where the small and big are connected cost much less than the separate version, small + big, 4 of each
