I'm not cheap, I'm frugal
« on: August 16, 2019, 04:47:41 am »
Hi All,
well it has come down to this: I have some old, very comfortable shorts that the wife refuses to repair as she thinks they are nasty looking. I  wear around the garage fixing bikes etc and maybe they have a few tears/rips/paint stains etc etc. And try to remember to change into something else whenever I go anywhere public (ok, sometimes I forget & she becomes angry that I'd embarass her in such a way)  ::)

I've threaten to use her sewing machine and fix them myself, she says if I use her machince she'll throw away my shorts.

Hey, my Mom used to make my shirts, darn my socks and repair most damaged dungarees right? Why can't my wife? Is it to the point that we as a society feel it's much more convenient to just buy new stuff instead of fixing what we have that still works?
Why can't she be more like my Mom? just kidding here as I would never say that because I value my time in my own bed and the couch is not all that comfortable.

Who is right?
I value your opinions (well, sometimes)  ;)

My Dad always said if you want a long lasting marriage (not necessarily a happy one) remember the wife decides what goes inside the house, ie, paint, rugs , knick-knacks etc, but you decide what happens in your own garage/work room/den/weight room/whatever:or vice versa whatever the case my be in your situation,  As long as you each have a space to your own.....where you can escape from each other once in while.

I guess it depends.  Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?

There is no end to trying to keep Mama happy, it goes on FOOOOOREEEEEEEVER!  That being said keep the shorts because you do your best when you are comfortable. I personally have shoes, shorts, and shirts that Goodwill or even homeless wouldn't want............but I love them. Just remember there is a time and place for everything.

Take them to a seamstress. My last EX-WIFE bought a sewing machine I would only assume so she could SAY she had one. Or she was running out of ways to spend money. Why save any  ::) She had no clue what to do with a sewing machine other than stash it away. There was never any intent on actually utilizing it. Just saying..... cajones required occasionally. It's not a one way street here girls....

Fix your shorts. They are garage shorts, the repairs don't have to be pretty.

My wife would prolly throw 'em in the "donation pile" or trash, depending on how bad they look.

I dont have special "shop only" clothing, dont see a need for it.

As a sideline I do construction work, painting, sheet rocking, plumbing, electrical then I get into my garage and usually end up with Never-sieze on my hands, shirts and shorts.
So I need special clothing.

Last time I asked the wife to fix a pair of my favorite shorts they Must have ended up in the trash because I haven't seen them since. :'(

Ok,  the wife calls my short pants "jhorts" because they make me look like a jerk when I wear them. Also she says if she catches me wearing them in the village again she'll throw them in the woodstove, & light it up so I can't retrieve them from the garbage next time. :-( Such a sad and evil woman.

But jorts are jean shorts. Are they jean shorts?

Try hand sewing a patch. Always good to learn a new skill for the back pocket
