5.5mm fuel line extention
« on: December 10, 2023, 08:50:28 AM »
Well I shopped and shopped both online and in person and struck out. I need a barbed coupling for the Honda 5.5mm fuel line for a bottle feed setup, but could only find 1/4" OMG what a tight fit. I am afraid it will be pernament if I sucessfully join these 2 together. I even bought some Tygon 3/16" ID line in hopes to couple to the 5.5, but I cannot find a fitting that works. The struggle is real  :'( Thoughts?

I've used a 1/4" Tee fitting with some [plumber's] Teflon tape wrapped on the nipples to fill in the 5.5mm hose a little better.

I've had the oposite issue because 5.5 fuel line is actually .21" and my 1/4" barbs are .25" .... very tight and hard to undo.

I may have to do both recomendations ... use this 3/16" y (smaller than 5.5) in combination with Honda man's tip of adding teflon to make it bigger . Trying to make a fuel bottle to hang on a hook so I can keep tank and seat off while tuning carbs.

How old is your fuel line? Maybe try heating it up a bit with a heat gun.

I've used a gas filter that has smaller ends that step up to bigger. It makes a good adapter between 5.5mm and 1/4"

I should probably mention that my 'tee' isn't a barbed-type fitting? I think it came from a plumbing store (or Ace Hardware, maybe?). It's brass, and the nipple ends are smooth. That's why I wrapped tape on them, so it would swell the hose a bit when sliding it on - and it's slippery. ;)

I try to avoid teflon tape on fuel fittings. I have plucked remnants of teflon tape from the float needle seat/fuel inlet from more than one carb. Gravity feed is pretty forgiving, but a zip tie could tighten things up if necessary, especially for temporary test-n-tune purposes.  8)

If you want to stretch tight fitting Tygon heat it up and shove it over the barbed fitting.

I used a tee from Ace hardware as well. Smooth, no barbs and it doesn’t leak. My fuel line are all new 5.5mm.

A lot of hobby shops have brass tube in many sizes, I just found a size that fits snugly and use that. Also got some (wild coloured) fuel proof hose to connect the carb air ports.

I think that's where my tee came from.
