I think it may be safe, but really crude workmanship..

You dont have to look at very many bike mags, for very long... to see that styling like that will not be warmly received..

The enclosed bike however is pretty well done.. dont know the back story but strongly suspect that it is the one I saw in a Popular Mechanix type of magazine that  has crossed my hands..

And it was built in the late 30s or 40s...pretty cool for back then...

We saw that one at Rhinebeck too, very, very cool machine.  Thanks to Phactory here's a link http://www.thedailymail.net/articles/2010/06/13/news/doc4c1435d232c64930001243.txt

A note on that article.  The owner estimeates it's worth at about $1 million.  I gotta disagree.  That would put it up there with some of the most highly prized motorcycles out there.  While very beautiful, aged, and probably well done, I doubt it has any provenance, which is one of the main drives behind motorcycle collectors, no?  It's pretty, but I'd be more inclined to pay out the nose for an NR750.  I'd save a lot of money and not cry if I wrecked it.  On second thought yeah I would, in the closet with a bottle of Jack.

I suspect it has some provenance, which will help its value..
but  hoping the value is higher that a Vincent, a boardtracker twin, or an early EL knuck..... is just comforming the owner has no clue..
I mean if its an even 1000cc Excelsior...it would do what 72mph...

Sure its unique...  but that dont equate to priceless.. Probably has tried to sell it to Leno, and got shot down in flames... ::)   ::)  ::)   ::) ;)

If you want to see streamined srtreetbikes done in the last few decades...
search...

Ness Big Red...I got to see that one in raw metal!

Bob Dron, had two built, one was the Heritage Royale, body work (on both) was done by a guy in Walnut Creek Ca.

Thise 3 bikes are great examples..

I think its a heat sink for the drum. But I was unaware that CBX's came with drums? Seems pretty outdated.

The Brits called these circular accessory chromed disks "bacon slicers" and they were all the rage among early cafe racers. And you thought Checkerboard Stripes were ridiculous?

The front brake on this CBX is from a '70-'71 Suzuki Water Bullalo GT750. It's the only affordable 4LS favorite among vintage racers. I may run mine on a cafe'd CB550 or 750 but it looks really out of place on a stock-bodied 80's CBX, IMHO...  ::)  RR

I was put on Earth to accomplish a certain number of things. Now I'm so far behind, I'll never die!

When done correctly they increase surface area on spoke flange and aid drum cooling (of course, majority are not done correctly and are only 'for show')

In your gallery go to a pic you want to post, right click and copy the path of the image then come back here, click on the little button next to YouTube and paste the url inside the img tags. All there is to it!

I'm on a Mac but Firefox would be the same - copy image address/location.
Internet Explorer doesn't make it as easy on you

Internet Explorer
Click on the desired picture with the right mouse button.
Select Properties from the menu.
Highlight the address appearing under Address (URL):.
Press Ctrl-C.

Mozilla Firefox
Click on the image with the right mouse button.
Choose Copy Image Location from the menu.
