Would love to hear that pipe. Any chance of posting a video of Phaedrus II running?

A new video is coming. But here's a link to the vid we made last year. It smoked too bad the engine had to be redone (thanks Mike). But you can hear it.

The brand name is "Marshall Deep Tone" from the Netherlands and it lives up to that.

Thanks. But neither a side car nor a trike appeals to me. Nor a CanAm. I've read the "only thing a trike has in common with a motorcycle is, if you ride it in the rain, you get wet."

A sidecar, nor trike, solves the problem of my dysfunctional feet.

If I can't ride it, I'll just haul it around and show off. I may try to ride a big scooter or a Piaggio MP3. No foot controls.

Thanks David. I've been trying everything.

So today, we futzed around with the rear turn signals to get them where I like them, not the best but better. The main problem was simply that the bolts were too long and the rear tire would come up and hit them if the suspension compressed enough. We could've just used shorter bolts. But the sigs weren't far enough away from the frame anyway so we experimented with various spacers, all chrome of course, till we got a combo that extended the distance, and used up the bolt length so its just flush with the nuts welded into the rear fender.

Then we went front to back. checking everything for tightness and adjustment, getting ready to ride. Warmed it up. then pushed it out into the daylight. But the front brakes were dragging really hard. Mallet taps on the calipers didn't loosen them up so we had to call it.  Something is causing them to hang. They worked fine on the first shakedown run but that was nearly 2 years ago now. I know all the things that need to be checked and that will be next weeks work. Wanted to mount the new MC anyway, and replace a couple of banjo bolts that are pretty nasty.

I had spentt some time trying to install the site glass. Couldn't get it to set the way I wanted and tried a few times. Then I realized there was some debris in the piston cylinder from the chroming process and tossed the whole thing in the solvent tank to soak for later.

I did put it in gear, and got the feel of it back to the shop. Pretty scary with my feet/legs issue, but I think I can do it.

MC, the bike sounds awesome. I hope the problems with your legs doesn't become too limiting. Many of us here (including myself) are nearing our "best before" date, but we can still enjoy our bikes even if we can't ride them as much as we used to.

I had unsuccessful back surgery this winter and it looks like another surgery is on the way, possibly taking out another summer of riding. I will still work on my bike, as you do, with pride as long as I am capable.

Thanks Tintop!

My Monday internet shopping: 2 chrome banjo bolts, bag of gold sealing washers, 2 oem banjo bolts in case the chrome ones (Goodridge) don't fit. Bikebandit.com.

Searching for pictures of a custom chainguard idea for the machinist, I stumbled across Carpy's website as he has one very similar to what I had in mind:

http://www.cb750cafe.com/products-page/steel-drilled-cafe-racer-chain-guard/

I had aluminum with cool welds in mind, but this will get the job done, for the summer.

I did, very nice. I printed it and put it in my folder for the machinist a few days ago. For my purposes, I wanted a downward curve at the tail.

I'm using a VF500F MC, so they have a different head, more petite. Not chrome, so I guess zinc. The one in the MC now is really buggered up. IF the Goodridge one doesn't suit, I'll chrome the OEMs.

A short but productive session today. First, probably ruled out the MC as the stuck brake problem. Loosened the bleeder and nothing came out. So, no built up pressure as happens from a plugged return hole. Removed one caliper and the wheel was still locked, so it's at least the remaining caliper or both that's stuck. I assume from sitting so long. Final fix will have to wait.

Got the short chrome banjo bolts from goodridge. Bonus detail, they have the heads relieved for a nice look.

The bolts I had were old nasty rusted chromers. Figured since we gotta work on the brakes anyway might as well spruce it up.

I'd ordered a minimal chainguard, a design I had thought of myself, from Carpy. Turns out it won't fit my swingarm. Turns out I've got a K0 swingarm! He didn't seem to know there was a difference in the mount style and spacing. But it is basically what I want for a guard. So I'll get pictures of it for my machinist to make me one out of aluminum. Turns out Carpys is too narrow for my tastes, it's narrower than a 530 ORing chain, so lube would get past it.

On another note, a truly worthless farkle is the chrome breather attached to the hose from the cam cover. Carpy has these for $40 + S&H. Too much even for me (it is chrome after all  ;) ) so I googled "CB750 crankcase breather" and found the exact same thing from CB750supply for $12 + S&H. Had to go for it. The filter is a separate piece from the bracket. To give it more substance than simply the snugness of the hose, I drilled the bracket and screwed it ti the filter.

Then I got a longer screw and affixed it to the sprocket cover.

Totally without usefullness, but, cool, IMHO.   ;)

Been talking to the proprietors of "Rampfree Trailers". Out of FL. Freight would be $350. But, he has one in a warehouse near here. Hope to see it soon. If it performs as says, and I can load a bike by myself, I will likely buy it.

http://www.rampfree.com/

In the meantime, gotta get the brakes freed up.

Thanks grcamna.

I got a call from Scott Lands, sub-contractor for Rampfree trailers. Turns out, the height of coincidence, that Rampfree, located in FL, has their single rail trailers built 40 minutes from my house!  We're going out tomorrow at 11A to view one. Scott has one witih his bike loaded on and I'll get to operate it. Maybe buy it if I can handle it.

Then we'll work to get the brakes operational on Sunday.   :D

No, it wasn't any more than a great coincidence.

We got out there yesteray, and the trailer is a really welll made and appointed piece. I'll commit to one tomorrow. They are on track to build and sell 500 this year, so its a going concern. With more of us old fogies needing all the help we can get, as we age, its likely to continue selling well. More later.

We got into the brakes today. It seems it may be as simple as really corroded (rust!) brake pucks and calipers. Pictures soon, but they were really rusty. My shop is a rainforest of humidity when it rains, I don't know why. The 2 stalls of the old garage were built in 1950ish. There is no vapor barrier. But my shop was built in 2002 to the higest standards, I thought. Anyway the humidity really took its toll. They were SBS pucks and had to be sized (Sand the paint off). This allowed them to rust an obscene amount.

So I'll be reading the FAQ Brakes, (Thanks 2 Tired) buying the proper goo, OEM pucks, dismantle for a thorough cleaning, and reassembling properly. More later.

There's nothing like rolling your bike w/ 'free & clear' brake calipers  :)
75' CB400F/'bunch o' parts' & 81' CB125S modded to a 'CB200S'
I love the small ones too !
Do your BEST...nobody can take that away from you.
