Finished polishing the clutch cover for the 550, but the time I was done I didn't have time to swap the covers before Moto Guild closed, so tomorrow is replacement day.

Carlo the Hydro Blaster rang me today to tell me that he's finished my 1969 K0 engine cases, and I can pick them up tomorrow. Sadly I can't as my car's going into the shop tomorrow, so I suggested Friday, but that's no good for Carlo as he's going interstate for a wedding, so we both agreed that I'll collect them on Tuesday.

No biggie, and he sent me some pics of his handiwork, which was a nice touch. The parts look great, and considering what they were like when I took them to him, I think it's money well spent. ;D

I was looking for a chasssi black, POR 15 or another brand. Rust-Oleum was available where I ordered vinyl silver paint for seat Honda stencil.

Be careful with POR15.  Great product, but it's not meant to be exposed to sunlight, it will turn grey if exposed.
Good information. I'm happy that I did not buy it then. I bought the spray for the top yoke.
I compared the result Rusto-Oleum Satin Black with NOS K6 speedo and tacho I have. Very close. Color and shine almost perfect, lets see how durable it is.

An extra tacho for my K6 refreshed with satin black by Rust-Oleum rattle can. I have read about good things about Rust-oleum.
It smells almost nothing! No sweet candy like chemical smell. I hope it will stay put where I sprayed it.
It was some rust that had broken thru the stock black. Sanded with 400 followed by 800 paper. One layer satin black.

I compared the Tachometer I painted with Rust-Oleum with the NOS K6 set I have. The satin black is a very close match to stock.
I wonder if the older K2 gauges also had satin black top covers. Good to know before I restore the old K2 set I have.

Thanks guys, Hydro Blasting (or Vapor Blasting, Vapor Honing etc, which are all fancy names for the exact same method) is just a slurry of blasting media and water fired at the target with the help of compressed air. The benefit being that you get a finer, smoother finish, and it's dust free. Silica dust will kill you, so that's a good thing.

If you were good enough you could use an attachment on your pressure washer that sucks blasting media into the water stream, I've seen lots of Youtube videos of guys using this method to strip the paint from cars, but for motorcycle engines and small parts, it just wouldn't be as effective.

Carlo uses a large hydro blasting cabinet which is a much better way of doing it, as he can work comfortably in any weather without getting wet. I'm thinking someone really smart could make their own Hydro blasting cabinet using a cheap pressure washer and a big air compressor, I'd love to be able to do this at home.

Here's an interesting pic of two of the exhaust ports on my early Sandcast head, there's quite a difference in the shape of the ports, no wonder CB750 heads respond so well to porting and polishing! ;D

I'm going to leave this one as is Spotty because real K0 people are a pedantic lot, but I do enjoy cleaning up and smoothing the ports on these heads. I've used a horrible old pneumatic die grinder with rusted out bearings for some years with abrasive "Cones" that work very well on CB750's, and when I get around to installing my (soon to arrive) CycleX big bore kit and a hot cam (that I don't own yet) I'll do a bit of a port cleanup on my K4 head too.

There is a much more "professional" porting tool going on Ebay for $500, but I haven't convinced myself that I'll do a better job with it, than I'll do with the crappy old pneumatic one. ;D

Just checked with my local plating and polishing shop, $30 to strip the chrome off of an aluminum side cover!

Trying to wrap my head around the brake splined shaft and the shifter shaft both being on the Right side of the bike...? Is that a shaft for something else, as it looks like the shifter spline shaft, and behind it is the brake lever shaft...

Kickstarted it after it didn’t want to start in -10C this morning. I was warm real quick. Rode it to work dodging the ice patches. Where is spring.

Could've been a flashback, Terry! I remember those years, and also Anita Bryant... Living in San Francisco, at that time, there were large areas that you didn't want to wear your 'Anita Bryant for Sheriff' button lol...
I was looking at the size of the kickstart spline shaft, and it is smaller than my CB750, or any other bike I have. The CB550's must use a smaller diameter shaft for the kickstarter?
