Keith, I would have thought that both clutches couldn't be engaged at the same time, is this not right ?

No oil pressure but there is bleed down time from full pressure which is up there for those engines.

Here's what I found yesterday, IT'S HAPPENED TO SOMEONE ELSE.

Luckily for this guy, he was doing 45mph in low gear when his fuse blew and the bike started rolling to a stop with a dead motor.

So did his rear wheel lock up and skid?

Both clutches cannot be engaged at the same time. The "shifting" valve can only address one clutch at a time or neither clutch.

No oil pressure but there is bleed down time from full pressure which is up there for those engines.

The oil pump only stops when the crankshaft stops.
The spec for the trans/torque converter/clutch pressure is 67-114 PSI at 1500 RPM.
The stall speed spec for the stock torque converter is 2500-2900 RPM. Somewhat higher on Samauto.
There will be some residual pressure to the torque converter and whichever clutch is "switched" on.
Not sure at what point, in the deceleration process, the TQ/clutch pressure and stall drops low enough to not turn a dead motor.

No Scott, if you read my full post, it says this.

Luckily for this guy, he was doing 45mph in low gear when his fuse blew and the bike started rolling to a stop with a dead motor.
Something he did find after stopping, the bike had gone into neutral.

If the bike had kicked into neutral, it couldn't go into a skid.

OK guys, before I go any further, let's get one thing straight. The bike can't have been running when I came to a stop.
The fuse was blown and a bike can't start up again without sparks.

Here's what I found yesterday, IT'S HAPPENED TO SOMEONE ELSE.

Luckily for this guy, he was doing 45mph in low gear when his fuse blew and the bike started rolling to a stop with a dead motor.
Something he did find after stopping, the bike had gone into neutral.

For those that don't know, unlike a normal gearbox where neutral is between 1st and 2nd, on the Matic it's at the bottom with up one for 1st and up another one for 2nd. If I was in high gear (2nd) and I've found proof that I was, did it kick down to 1st causing the lock up as both gears are locked in place all the time and it's only the two clutches that determine which gear you are in.
With the motor not running, the oil pump would not be sending oil to the clutches and at some point through lack of pressure, the selector causes a down shift without telling the other clutch to release.

Over to you guys, Sam. ;)
This "blown fuse" thing was happening quite a bit at Bradenton (years ago) when Wilbur and I looked into the harness. I gave up but Wilbur pressed on and found  an intermittent ground which explained blowing fuses every 1/4 mile run. I think there were other problems related to electrical issues but I am not going to speculate. i personally took that engine apart and except for a very worn Hy-Vo primary chain and broken primary drive springs (extremely common) the engine was OK.

Sorry Sam, but you confused me when you said the same thing happened to him. ;) I think it's been established that a non-turning crankshaft/oil pump will not cause the rear wheel to lock up, regardless of the shift lever position?

Mike, the blown fuse issue didn't just start at Bradenton. It was on going. I even pushed tat bike off the track in SC during early testing .

[/quote] I forgot about that Frank. Bill has that engine in his possession now though it is over 1000cc's and many internal parts replaced. Bill and I talked about what the bike itself needs and hopefully Bill can go through the wiring and getting the rear brake system it really needs.

Hi Johno, I left the bike with Mike Rieck and Bill Benton to see if they could salvage anything from it.
OK, it cost me quite a bit to build it but between them, Bill and Mike put a lot of time into it so I thought it only fitting to leave it with them to do as they pleased.

The engine has been completely rebuilt and now has my billet block with 72mm high compression pistons. I did not see any overt problems with it that could have caused Sam's accident. It did need a new HyVo chain and dampening springs (the 4 square springs that are broken in every auto engine.)
The bike needs an appropriate rear brake system and some other things. Bill has all the parts now.
