SOHC4 Rally 2011 Commemorative Patch AND T-Shirt
« on: December 20, 2010, 10:10:10 PM »
It has been mentioned that we need to have a Commemorative Patch designed and produced for our Rally and I agree. We are open to suggestions on this as far as design and manufacture goes. Since this is a "no fee" event the patches would have to be made available for purchase. If we were to acquire a sponsor(s) perhaps they would be able to supply these to us. Any thoughts on design, a manufacturer or a potential sponsor(s) would be great to hear. If you have a contact that you can utilize please see what you can do.

What do you guys think?    :P

well, first off, I thought we were talking 2012 for "The Relay Event"....not that I would mind doing something commemorative in 2011..

We are, we were....   I have the distinct impression that a lot of our guys would/want to/are expecting to ride this coming year.

My question would be... Can it happen in 2011? Do we have the members required to make it happen in 2011? I would expect a better ride in 2012 but should that eliminate 2011?

What's the general consensus? Do we want to pull it off in 2011?

If we want to pull it off in 2011 we'd better enlist a bunch more riders!!

I'd love to, although this coming year I think I'll be confined to the PNW region, but...we'll see how the schedule falls out. SF to Reno is about a 3-4 hr trip up I-80, but it would be much nicer to take a day, go up 101 to 37 thru Vallejo, I-80 to 12 thru Fairfield and Rio Vista thru Lodi to 88 and up to Tahoe or stay on 12 to San Andreas then 49 to Angels Camp and up 4 to 89 to 88  and over the hill to Reno..or over the Bay Bridge thru Berkeley and Walnut Creek and catch 4 thru Stockton and then up 4 or 88..that would make it a three- four day trip, roughly 1500 miles for me..Pdx to Winters, spend the nite at my sisters, hit SF the next day for the Reno run, then a day or two back to Portland. But it also depends on the riders..I sure don't want to make plans for guys "out of my area", I just used to spend a lot of time running those hills from Sac to Tahoe down to Angels Camp and Yosemite and miss it.. and I don't mind riding for 6-8 maybe 10 hours in a day...

So in my back yard...I'm looking at I-5 Portland to Seattle/Everett then 2 thru Skyhomish to 97 at Wenatchee and up to Oroville..then over to Spokane and back to Portland..about 1000 miles/3 days for me..

I was thinking it was this year, 2011 that is, and I'd certainly buy any type of patch/sticker/emblem. I hope to be starting a new job soon so I'm going to be pushing it to take the time off for this but in 2012 I'm really thinking I'd like to make Vegas my starting point.

What about a round patch with the club logo in the middle:

http://www.sohc4.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/2007logo.jpg

And something to the effect of: "Relay 'round the World 2011" around the outer edge on the bottom half of the patch?

Perhaps somebody with some photoshop skills can make a few mockups.

Agree 100%.  All along I have been planning for 2011.  Besides if we wait for 2012 and the ride runs long we would have to make contingencies for the end of the world and all that.  Now that would be an administrative nightmare.   ;D

2011 would be best, if you push it out to 2012 it will fall apart. Who says you can't do another one in 2012? Different routes etc.

It may still be happening in 2012 even if it starts in 2011 it is after all a pretty big world as far as covering it on bikes go. I like the golden piston and rod centered on a round patch with the wording around the outer edge. What are the official racing colors of Honda Japan? I know historically each country had official colors I think the US was blue and white way back when.

How about the SOHC Honda Wing in the centre
The piston vertically in behind it
2011 curved on the top edge
Around the World curved along the bottom edge

My opinion would be to stay away from any particular "national colours", just keep it generic.

Here's a rough sketch for a patch.. I downloaded the logo and hand lettered the script.  Perhaps someone with better skills could improve upon this or if people liked it it could be taken to a patch making company and completed...Larry
