My new Hondamatic cb750a for $500
« on: June 30, 2011, 05:13:50 AM »
Today me and my father picked up a sweet deal. The gas tank is in great condition no dents minor rust.. anyways we fired her butt up last night woke a few neighbors. We started her without filters with half choke to add restriction. We want to use the stock filter system Because I hear you should. Problem is... its hard as hell to put on due to room. Any ideas on this problem?

Install just the top half of the filter box first (all bolted up), then slide the bottom half in and attach it to the top half. If the airbox boots to carb body are giving you fits they may be age/heat distressed and may need replaced. Reconditioning them might help (search "wintergreen") but I know the new airbox horns made my 750K model much smoother to install.

Congrats on the new aquisition!

Ahhh... you definitely need to split the upper and lower halves of the airbox, both for ease of install and to inspect the condition of the filter.

Thanks for tips guys I definitely need them . This shall be the first thing I do when i get home -grin- ill take some pictures and video if I can get her started last night. I got her started roughly for 40 seconds damn was she loud. I had two pods on 1st and 2nd cylinders were backfiring a tiny bit but that's cause they werent upjetted I just wanted to see if it cranked up. And she did without accelerate pump working. Then I realized I needed stock filter to utilize it.

Keep on a look out for pics
Btw where should I start a project log?

Ok so I was fiddling with the bike last night. I noticed left side mufflers backfires.  I have a blown head gasket... oil seeping out.. left side carbs draining out of over flow ... but good news is electrical I'd good ;)
