I had my pipe silver ceramic coated up at central CT coatings in East Hartford. They did a killer job, inside and out. A year later and it still looks new. It cost about $180 if i recall.

Well, the way to be scientific about it is...eh, never mind. It would take too long to explain.

Interesting, thanks, brother.

I'll check it out but I'm probably going au naturel.

My thoughts, too. I just shot them an email to see what the cost would be. We'll see. Thanks

Thanks, yeah they look beautiful. I also removed the Hindle emblem from the muffler. Thought it may have been tacked on but the RRR guys said it'll just peel off once you get an end lifted up. Shows off the muffler better, I think.

So I'm probably going to be vapor blasting my entire motor. I was thinking of soda blasting it and painting it black again but I'm not so sure, and vapor blasting is so easy and leaves a great finish. But I'm procrastinating with cleaning the gaskets off, pain in the ass! Does vapor blasting remove gasket material? These motors are painted black on the inside of the cases, I guess for oil shedding, so I don't want that blasted away.

Thoughts?

They emailed me back and said they don't do inside coating only. And that they'll do the whole inside and out for $250.

That pretty much seals the deal for me, no coating at all. I'm not worried about it.

Love it. It's getting cold up here so now I'm getting into engine building mode. Must be ready for spring.

:))

I don't think it's too pompous to say that this journey I'm taking with the engine building is equivalent to Lewis and Clark's across North America as far as bravery and significance. Except they probably had fewer cases of dysentery.

The head gasket that comes with the Dynoman kit is a CFM Cometic gasket. Is there any difference/benefit to be using one of their MLS gaskets instead? It seems like a better product. Multiple stainless steel layers coated with viton vs one stainless coated in fiber.

Haha, I know you have! I've been lurking on that thread for some time now. Beautiful results.

I'm unsure of how aggressive it is though. It seems like it won't remove paint. The '82 650 is painted black by Honda, I might have to bead blast it first. My goal is to get the entire motor blasted along with the fork lowers.

My motor was bead blasted first, I believe I mentioned that in Nils thread. I had the machine shop do it when I had the cylinders bored.
Nils may be able to blast it first?

If I recall correctly he has the equipment, or can sub it out to any of the shops nearby in the Tucson metro area that do.
Ideally as a business starting you want control over quality of the work,  so subbing out isn't the best.  But, starting up with huge capital outlay can doom you to failure.  Fine balance has to be achieved.
The problem with old motorcycle parts is you can't just order another and replacement used may have issues...depends on the part of course.
Steve, H2 part looks great and I feel confident you will like the decision Dave.

Pull the motor apart and clean it up.  Mineral spirirs can cut through oil but Turpentine is a great solvent to cut old geeasd and oil as well.
I think if it is like the 80s Nighthawks the pajnt is more like a plastic coating and can be difficult to remove.  Paint was often cleared from factory,  including metal parts snx thst is a tough clear that is likely a urethane.

Thanks Mick! And thanks for the info guys. I'd love to use Nils but shipping is going to be a lot. I'm in CT. The motor is already going to MRieck up in Mass and he might have a vapor blast guy close by. If so, then I'll do that. If not...then I don't know. I'll have to consider shipping it down to Nils. I don't even know what a full empty motor weighs, probably close to 75-80lbs.
